His 2016 IHRA Summit Sportsman season was one for the ages. He raced in two IHRA Divisions, won two championships and seven races and he’s only 10 years old. Let that sink in for a second – this 10-year-old child celebrated two championships and seven race wins this year. CENTER STAGE IHRA ROAD TO THE FUTURE LOGAN WESTMORELAND BY ROB GOODMAN surreal that we’re here. You can’t help but be proud of him. I don’t really get scared, but I probably should. There are a couple of times when he’s scared me looking at the finish line jabbing on brakes and stuff. I love it. I love watching him no matter if he wins or loses, it makes us proud. He’s probably the most-calm kid you would ever meet. It doesn’t matter if it’s first round or final round; he doesn’t change. No doubt – Sportsman racing is in this guy’s blood – literally. He’s a straight-A, fifth- grade student who’s been driving IHRA Junior Dragsters since he was seven. He likes to do things tons of kids enjoy, but why drag racing? “I like to swim, hunt, fish,” Westmoreland said. “I started driving Junior Dragster when I was seven. I saw my Uncle and Grandpa do it; my uncle races mostly Top Dragster.” Logan’s Grandpa, Joey Gary, drove a ‘68 Camaro that Logan dreams of driving one day – now he likes to get in the car and “crank it up.” His uncle, Joe Gary, is a former IHRA Summit SuperSeries World Champion. Logan and Uncle Joe compete to see who can earn the most Ironman Trophies, and with his epic 2016 season, nephew has now passed uncle while winning the IHRA Division 9 Junior Advanced championship and the IHRA Division 2 Junior Beginner championship. “He’s only 10; he’s just begun, and he’s already won two divisions,” Logan’s mother Lesley said during the IHRA Summit World Finals in Memphis, Tenn. “It’s kind of
