DRM Issue #19 – Lang Acceler-Eights Closer To Pro Mod Title
With the 2009 IHRA Nitro Jam season down to a single, highly critical event, professional teams are gearing up for the winner-take-all World Finals at North Carolina’s Rockingham Dragway.
The battles in Top Fuel and Pro Modified are all but wrapped up, with rookie Del Cox Jr. and defending class champ Kenny Lang respectively looking to walk away with championship gold. Cox has a 74-point lead over 2007 champion Bruce Litton, while Lang has held off Ed Hoover all season, and goes into Rockingham 132 points to the good.
The big fight will be for the Elite Motorsports Pro Stock title, with John Montecalvo, Frank Gugliotta, and two-time and defending champion Pete Berner all vying for the top spot.
Read in-depth analysis of the battle for the championship crowns in Issue 19.
There’s also full coverage of the President’s Cup Nationals from Maryland International Raceway in Budds Creek Maryland. The nearly perfect air and well-prepared track surface combined to produce record runs in a number of classes. Despite some periods of rain, fans and racers alike hung tough and turned the weekend into one of the most memorable of the season.
In Summit Pro-Am action, New England Dragway hosted the final event of the season, with winners in all classes qualifying for the Tournament of Champions race at Rockingham. These winners, as well as all the previous qualifiers, are featured in a pictorial overview in Issue 19.
With the Summit Allstars program moving to a fall runoff this year, we are proud to present a preview of the prestigious sportsman shootout in this issue.
Don’t miss the opportunity to get off track with Randy Cunningham as he interviews one of the IHRA’s rising stars, Pro Stock competitor Trevor Eman.
There’s also another of Susan Wade’s features on IHRA members tracks. This time around she gives us a look at the people behind Alabama’s Chilton County Dragway.
And of course IHRA President Aaron Polburn offers his unique take on the state-of-the-sport and the world in general in his “The Last Word” column.
