The International Hot Rod Association announced today that 2015 contingency postings have reached $3 million, in addition to pending commitments. The overall posting represents a double-digit increase over 2014. IHRA racers are eligible to collect contingency dollars through participation with posted products in the Nitro Jam Series, Summit Pro-Am Series presented by AMSOIL and the Summit Team Finals.

“We are proud of the level of renewals we’ve signed for 2015 along with many new companies that have come on board,” said Dan Driscoll, IHRA Director of Contingency Sales. “We believe postings will dramatically increase again for 2016 as IHRA continues its resurgence in the industry.”

Contingency sponsors receive exposure at more than 55 events annually through the IHRA marketing program and reach a localized base of IHRA racers.

“Our program has received praise for accuracy and verification” said IHRA President Scott Gardner. “We fundamentally believe sponsor involvement in our contingency program creates sales opportunities and numerous benefits as long as the program is administered properly and is not cost prohibitive.”

The next Summit Pro-Am Series event presented by Amsoil is March 27-29 at Pine Valley Raceway, Lufkin, Texas.

The IHRA Nitro Jam Southern Nationals will mark the biggest drag race in the history of Bradenton at one of the sanctioning body’s most prestigious tracks in United States.

IHRA Nitro Jam is “heads-up” drag racing – first racer to the finish line wins in all five pro categories.

DATES:

Friday-Saturday, April 17-18

FEATURING:

CROWER PRO MOD: The wildest class in drag racing returns to its birthplace – the IHRA! Nitrous oxide and supercharged engines rocketing the cars (everything from ’57 Chevrolets to new Cadillacs) down the quarter mile at speeds in excess of 250 miles per hour. Pro Mod will compete at eight Nitro Jam events in 2015, beginning with Bradenton Motorsports Park (April 17- 18), followed by Palm Beach International Raceway (April 24-25), Cordova International Raceway (May 29-30), Maryland International Raceway (June 19-20), Grand Bend Motorplex (June 26-28), US 131 Motorsports Park (August 7-8), Dragway 42 (September 11-12) and Memphis International Raceway for the Summit Racing Equipment World Finals (October 9-10).

AMSOIL NITRO FUNNY CAR presented by Aeromotive -- The loudest, fastest nitromethane-burning nostalgia Funny Cars in the country making up the fastest- growing class in drag racing. With new rules allowing these cars nearly unlimited power, the AMSOIL Nitro Funny Car class is the most exciting new class in more than 40 years of Nitro Jam drag racing history. The class utilizes “old school” Funny Car bodies (fiberglass replicas of ‘60s and early-‘70s cars) the fans can relate to. The Baton Rouge event should feature one of the biggest fields of AMSOIL Nitro Funny Cars, featuring Mike McIntire and Jason Rupert. McIntire, of Mentor, Ohio, set a new speed record for the AMSOIL Nitro Funny Car class at the recent season-opener in Tucson, Arizona, in his new “McAttack”1971 Camaro. Rupert, of Yorba Linda, California, is the defending IHRA Nitro Funny Car champion and drives the black “Bays & Rupert” 1969 Camaro.

U.S. BOUNTY HUNTERS PRO STOCK – Once referred to as “factory hot rods,” these stock-appearing American cars are powered by “mountain motor” V-8s. For example, Cary Goforth’s Camaro that won the season-opener at Tucson, Arizona, is powered by a naturally-aspirated, piston-driven V-8 engine that measures in excess of 826 cubic inches. The class is sponsored by the U.S. Bounty Hunters TV show on the Destination America channel.

NITRO HARLEY – Exactly what it means: nitromethane-burning Harley-Davidson motorcycles. Certainly not for the faint of heart, these riders literally don a flack vest and straddle a nitro-burning rocket down the track at speeds in excess of 220 miles per hour on the back wheel.

JET DRAGSTERS – Belching flames and smoke, these rear-engine dragsters are powered by General Electric J-85 jet engines which produce more than 5,000 horsepower and can exceed 300 miles per hour in the quarter mile. Each Nitro Jam features a four-car competition with qualifying and eliminations. The four Florida-based Larsen Motorsports cars all are piloted by females, including defending champion Elaine Larsen and 19-year-old Katerina Moller, a University of South Florida mechanical engineering student.

U.S. JET FIRE TRUCK – Last but not least, what’s not to love about a jaw-dropping, dual-engine, jet-powered 1940 Ford fire truck making track-scorching exhibition passes?

Boychuk, Bealko, Kile, Moller win IHRA Nitro Jam Mardi Gras Nationals http://www.ihra.com/ihra-news/all-news/item/1567-boychuk,-bealko,-kile,-moller-win-ihra-nitro-jam-mardi-gras-nationals http://www.ihra.com/ihra-news/all-news/item/1567-boychuk,-bealko,-kile,-moller-win-ihra-nitro-jam-mardi-gras-nationals Tim Boychuk won the AMSOIL Nitro Funny Car final.

Tim Boychuk (AMSOIL Nitro Funny Car presented by Aeromotive), Kevin Bealko (U.S. Bounty Hunters Pro Stock), Tracy Kile (Nitro Harley) and Kat Moller (Jet Dragster) won final-round eliminations tonight at the IHRA Nitro Jam Mardi Gras Nationals at State Capitol Dragway in Port Allen, Louisiana.

Boychuk, of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, faced defending IHRA AMSOIL Nitro Funny Car champion Jason Rupert in the final round of eliminations. Boychuk outran Rupert to the finish line, 5.867 sec./235.72 mph to 5.993 sec./245.43 mph.

“This is big for us,” Boychuk explained. “We struggled for the last year-and-a-half or so and it’s been really painful. We started off winning a lot, then it kind of all went away on us. Now it’s back – the car’s back. I can feel the car is back and it’s really working the way we want it to work.  We changed a few things. I bought out my partner, Ron Hodgson. We had a great relationship – we still do – he didn’t want to race as much as I did. Now we got Twig (legendary driver Twig Zeigler of 1970s Pizza Haven Funny Car fame) and Roland (revered ‘60s-‘70s “Hawaiian” Funny Car owner Roland Leong) both working on the car and they’ve got it back again. I’ve got two great guys looking after the car. The team – we’ve got the same crew working on the car – has so much consistency.”

Boychuk defeated No. 1 Qualifier and past IHRA champion Paul Romine in first round, then scored a bye run in the second to meet Rupert in the final.

Kile, of Asheville, North Carolina, faced Brian Jernigan in the Nitro Harley final. After Jernigan crossed the finish line, he became separated from his motorcycle and crashed. He was transported to a local medical center for evaluation. Kile qualified third and defeated Rocky Jackson in the opening round and Alvin Kobernusz in the second.

“It’s the second race of the year, and a very big win,” said Kile. “We come to every race knowing we can win. The IHRA Nitro Harley field is gonna be tough all year long. We’re just going to get used to it and run ‘em round by round.”

Bealko, of Bridgeport, West Virginia, qualified seventh in an eight-car field. He defeated Cary Goforth in the first round of eliminations, then faced teammate John DeFlorian Jr. in the second. Bealko defeated J.R. Carr in the final, 6.272 sec./224.71 mph to 13.602 sec./62.20 mph, to collect the coveted IHRA Ironman trophy.

“It was a big win for us,” said Bealko. “Having to race my teammate, John, in the semi-finals is never our best-case scenario. To be able to get by him, then run J.R. Carr, who’s been stellar all day. I just got switched up on the lights and got an awful long light before I left. But the car went right down there and the whole way there I was just thinking of my crew they’re gonna kill me if I don’t get in front of him. I was able, by the grace of God, to get in front of him and we had a nice win.”

Moller, a 19-year old University of Florida student, faced Elaine Larsen in the Jet Dragster final. It was a repeat of the season-opener in Tucson, Arizona, last month, where the pair faced each other in Jet Dragster finale. This time, Moller prevailed.

“I’m super excited about it,” admitted Moller. “Last race I had Elaine in the final and she beat me to the finish line so this race I’m glad I got to beat her. So we’re even and we’ll see who wins next time.”

The local 1/8-mile Outlaw Pro Modified final was won by Bill Doucet of Lawtell, Louisiana, over Bill Banaka of Brandon, Mississippi, 3.80 sec./193.09 mph to 4.604 sec./123.79 mph.

Tina Pierce and Alex Taylor staged an exhibition race in their street-legal cars during the event. Pierce’s S-10 crashed during the race. She was transported to a local hospital for evaluation and released. The IHRA’s rigid safety standards prevented her from suffering serious injury.

IHRA Nitro Jam Drag Racing Series Invades Baton Rouge March 13-14 http://www.ihra.com/ihra-news/all-news/item/1549-ihra-nitro-jam-drag-racing-series-invades-baton-rouge-march-13-14 http://www.ihra.com/ihra-news/all-news/item/1549-ihra-nitro-jam-drag-racing-series-invades-baton-rouge-march-13-14 www.NitroJam.com

The International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) Nitro Jam Drag Racing Series heads to the Baton Rouge, Louisiana, area for the second race of the 2015 season at State Capitol Raceway in Port Allen on March 13-14. The IHRA Nitro Jam Mardi Gras Nationals will mark the biggest drag race in the history of Louisiana at one of the sanctioning body’s most prestigious tracks in United States.

Nitro Jam is “heads-up” drag racing entertainment – first racer to the finish line wins – in all four pro categories. The exciting show includes qualifying and eliminations for:

AMSOIL NITRO FUNNY CAR PRESENTED BY AEROMOTIVE -- The loudest, fastest nitromethane-burning nostalgia Funny Cars in the country making up the fastest- growing class in drag racing. The class utilizes “old school” Funny Car bodies (fiberglass replicas of ‘60s and early-‘70s cars) that the fans can relate to. The Baton Rouge event should feature one of the biggest fields of AMSOIL Nitro Funny Cars, including Mike McIntire and Jason Rupert. McIntire, of Mentor, Ohio, set a new speed record for the AMSOIL Nitro Funny Car class at the recent season-opener in Tucson, Arizona, in his new “McAttack” 1971 Camaro. Rupert, of Yorba Linda, California, is the defending IHRA Nitro Funny Car champion and drives the striking black “Bays & Rupert” 1969 Camaro.

U.S. BOUNTY HUNTERS PRO STOCK – Once referred to as “factory hot rods,” these stock-appearing American cars are powered by huge “mountain motor” V-8s.

U.S. FIRE FORCE JET FIRE TRUCK – Last but not least, what’s not to love about a jaw-dropping, jet-powered (dual turbines) 1940 Ford fire truck making track-scorching exhibition passes?
