Crossville Dragway Joins IHRA Family of Member Tracks

Thursday, 21 April 2016

The 1/8-mile facility in Crossville, Tennessee, formerly known as I-40 Dragway, was recently purchased by Nick Bresaw and Tommy Fitzgerald Jr. and has joined the IHRA family of member tracks. Bresaw and Fitzgerald Jr. are currently in the process of providing the facility with a multi-million dollar renovation and plan to reopen the rejuvenated Crossville Dragway mid-2016.

Nick Bresaw has been involved with drag racing his whole life and began attending races with his father in Portland, Oregon. Nick began racing in 1985 with a learner’s permit and a 10 second 1/8-mile Chevrolet station wagon. Nick still races today, competing with two dragsters and a 1963 Corvette roadster.

“Having the former I-40 Dragway in our backyard and seeing the need to revitalize racing in this area, we were excited when the track came for sale” said Bresaw. “We were not looking for a track to purchase, however a realtor came to us knowing our passion for motorsports and a deal was struck. It is our desire to have a family friendly track that provides a safe dragstrip for racers to compete. The rise of television shows promoting “street” racing, is the opposite of what we want to promote. We want a place that young drivers (as well as older) can get their start and fall in love with the sport like we did,” Bresaw continued.

Situated on 101 acres, the facility is getting a ground up restoration that includes a concrete racing surface 50’ wide and 800’ long with poured concrete walls on each side. The 1/8-mile track will be 2,200 feet long with a 200’ pea gravel trap at the top end. Racers will be treated to paved asphalt parking for 300 rigs which includes 20 parking spots with water and 50 amp service. The track will feature a new Accutime timing system and LED scoreboards, new lighting, new restrooms with showers, a new two story tower with a VIP lounge and eight staging lanes to choose from.

The facility is also improving spectator amenities which will include seating for 2,000 spectators as well as new concessions on both the pit and spectator sides of the track and new restrooms.

“Nick and the Crossville team are really going the extra mile to make this facility one of the premiere venues in this region and we look forward to Crossville joining the Summit SuperSeries,” said Phil Gingerich, IHRA track development director. “This facility will be outstanding when it is completed and we encourage everyone to follow the construction progress on the tracks website at www.crossvilledragway.com or their Facebook page.”
