With a focus on grassroots, Sportsman racing, IHRA Summit SuperSeries champions at the Missouri track automatically qualify for the IHRA World Finals. Others, who are IHRA members, can qualify for the World Finals at the IHRA Division 2 (Heat Wave) Summit Team Finals at Holly Springs, Mississippi on Sept. 14-16.
“There is certainly a lot of interest in the points and people going to the team finals,” track consultant Al Schoenwetter said. “There have been an increase in the people signed up for points and those who want to go to Holly Springs.”
Those folks look to follow the path by Ozark Raceway Park representatives at the 2022 IHRA Summit SuperSeries World Finals. It included multiple-time track champion Wayne Trammel (Top), Steve Carlock (Mod), Carl Eggley (Sportsman) and Gracie Chunn (Junior Dragster).
Ozark Raceway Park is set apart from other tracks by its natural beauty. But, the venue also has some nice man-made features including a three-story tower with concessions underneath. There is an Accutime timing system and concrete barriers 800 feet down the track. There is a huge shutdown area and plenty of paved parking spots.
“This track has been around since the 1970s and it has that nice, local feel about it,” Schoenwetter said. “It’s out in the woods with the trees. It’s not just a strip of asphalt in the middle of a field.”
Ozark Raceway Park offers Extreme Fuel and Oil Products to its competitors. There are also other exciting events like an Ironman Classic on July 15 and the “Show Time Shootout” the following week.
“We have an Ironman coming up in a couple of weeks and we’re excited about that,” Schoenwetter said. “It’s such a sought-after trophy. We can’t wait to get the rest of the season in. This weekend, we have points race No. 6 and the Ironman is No. 7. From there, it’s just finishing up the season with great racing and getting ready to go to Holly Springs.”
