Maryland Summit Sportsman Nat'l Championship Event Postponed Until July

Thursday, 04 May 2017

Due to inclement weather, the International Hot Rod Association and Maryland International Raceway have postponed the May 5-7 IHRA Summit Sportsman National Championship event until the weekend of July 14-16 due to a washout predicted for Friday and unstable weather projections through the rest of the weekend.

“The format of the event weekend, with a full slate of racing both with the SSNC and Door Wars program would require a nearly spotless weekend of weather,” said Jon O’Neal, IHRA Division Director. “The margin for error in an event like this is slim. It’s a coin flip as to the forecast and we’re not willing to put our racers’ time and money on the line for a gamble with a solid alternate weekend in July.”

The Haltech Door Wars presented by Winegardner Auto Group will be run as a one-day show on Sunday. A full detailed Sunday schedule will be posted this evening at www.racemdir.com.

The next IHRA Summit Sportsman National Championship event is scheduled June 1-4 at State Capitol Raceway in Baton Rouge, La.
