WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — Christopher Webb and Vernon Rowland have double the reason to celebrate their performances in the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) Summit Sportsman National Championship with the vacation of a lifetime.

In addition to becoming IHRA World Champions, the two drivers earned trips to the island of Aruba. The Aruba vacations are in addition to the $15,000 cash prize each driver received as the champion of his division courtesy of Summit Racing Equipment.

The two champions were chosen by a blind draw, and both drivers soon shared the exciting news with their spouses.

“I had thought about it, but then I put it in the back of my mind,” said Webb, the IHRA Hot Rod World Champion. “In the forefront, it was just winning the championship. This is quite a bonus. I’ve never been to Aruba before. I sent the news to my wife in e-mail and she was very excited as well.”

Rowland, the IHRA Super Rod World Champion, is coming up on a milestone and the vacation couldn’t have come at a better time.

“I was caught completely off guard,” Rowland said. “When I called my wife, she was thrilled. My wife and I will be celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary in March, and we are very much looking forward to this trip.”

The Aruba vacations are made possible by partnerships with AroundArubaTours.com, El Gaucho restaurant, Tropicana Resorts — TropClub Casino, More 4 Less car rentals and the Don Flip Racing Team.

“On behalf of everyone at IHRA and all our racers, I’d like to thank Juan Werleman and all the sponsors in Aruba for putting these trips together,” IHRA Vice President Skooter Peaco said. “For several years, these sponsors have provided Aruba trips for our Summit SuperSeries Top and Mod World Champions, and without exception, our champions have returned with wonderful stories about the incredible hospitality our partners in Aruba provide.”
