Weather Forecast Forces Postponement of IHRA Farmington Opener

Tuesday, 06 March 2018

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — With the forecast calling for multiple days of rain and unfavorably cool conditions, the International Hot Rod Association and Farmington Dragway have postponed the IHRA Summit Sportsman Spectacular March 9-11 opener until Oct. 5-7.

The latest forecast for the Mocksville, N.C., area has a 90 percent chance of rain for Sunday.

“We have to take into consideration what’s best for the racers,” IHRA division director Josh Peake said. “Several of them had committed to travel a good distance to race at this event. It wouldn’t be fair to ask them to tow their race cars and equipment and not have the opportunity to even get on the track. We appreciate Farmington Dragway working with us to come up with a suitable date where the racers can have an enjoyable experience.”

All pre-entries for the original March 9-11 Farmington Dragway dates will be honored for the new dates. Racers can now register until Sept. 27 to take advantage of a buy entry into Saturday’s race and get free entry for Sunday’s race.

The new opener for the IHRA Summit Sportsman Spectacular is set for April 20-22 at State Capitol Raceway, Port Allen, La.
