Hernandez Leads Edinburg Winners at IHRA Sportsman Spectacular presented by Hagerty and Moser Engineering opener

EDINBURG, Texas — The International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) Sportsman Spectacular presented by Hagerty and Moser Engineering got off to a spectacular start to the 2021 season with Jonathon Hernandez winning in the Top (Electronics) class at Edinburg Motorsports Park.

With the Saturday, March 20 event tailored to the Edinburg Motorsports Park weekly racing program, Hernandez topped runner-up Ivan Garcia in the final round. He claimed a $1,500 top prize and a special 50th anniversary Ironman trophy.

All of the Edinburg event winners and runner-ups were IHRA-licensed members. The winners received the special Ironman trophies and the runner-ups were presented with special IHRA 50th anniversary medals.

Hometown racer Orly Cano went home $1,000 richer after being victorious in the 6.0 Index class. He outran Noe Martinez in the final round.

Scott Ball drove his orange and white Camaro to the win in the 7.0 Index class. He beat Rigo Trevino in the $1,500-to-win championship round.

Carlos De Leon led the youth charge with his victory in the Junior Dragsters. Odell Brown gave a strong effort to earn the other final-round appearance.

The IHRA Sportsman Spectacular moves to Farmington Dragway, Mocksville, N.C., March 27-28. The event is tailored to Farmington’s weekly program featuring Top, Foot Brake, Junior Dragster, Street and Teen classes.
