Trio Wins Gambler's Races at IHRA Summit World Finals

MILLINGTON, Tenn. (Oct 21, 2017) — Drivers from Wisconsin International Raceway, Elk Creek Dragway and Carolina Dragway were among Day 1 Gambler’s Race winners Friday at the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) Summit World Finals at Memphis International Raceway.

Winners in the Top and Mod divisions earned $1,000 plus a $7,500 gift certificate towards a Stage 1 dragster from Amercian Race Cars.

Dion Degnitz from Random Lake, Wisc., representing Wisconsin International Raceway, lost in the first round, but used a buy-back and went on to win in the Top (Box) Gambler’s Race. Degnitz matched his dial-in with a 5.261-second elapsed time at 128.97 mph after a .010 reaction time. Jim Shawn from Davie, Fla., representing Immokalee Dragway, red-lighted with a  .-003 at the start. He posted a 4.709-second run at 146.11 mph on a 4.69 dial-in.

Nathan Sexton from Radford, Va., representing Elk Creek Dragway took top honors in Mod (No Box) Gambler’s Race, matching his dial-in with an 8.287 elapsed time at 81.33 mph after a .035 reaction time. Aaron Brown of Odessa, N.Y., representing Skyview Drags went down the track in 8.021 seconds at 85.05 mph against an 8.00 dial-in. He had a .042 reaction time.

Blaine Bragg from Guyton, Ga., representing Carolina Dragway, won the Junior Dragster Gambler’s Race and $300 from JR Race Car as he and runner-up Skylar Bustle of Sherrills Ford, N.C., both had 7.93 dial-ins. Bragg finished in 7.932 seconds at 82.13 mph after a .006 start. Bustle, representing Farmington Dragway, had a 7.939-second pass at 80.32 mph along with a .009 reaction time.

Hundreds of Summit SuperSeries track champions, along with Summit Team Finals divisional champions from around the United States and Canada, will compete today for the largest and most prestigious bracket racing national championship in drag racing.

The IHRA Summit SuperSeries will crown champions in Top (Box), Mod (No Box) and Junior Dragster. The $200,000 program is the championship competition for IHRA member Sportsman racers and it features an increased and expanded purse for 2017.

The championship prize package in Top and Mod is $20,000-to-win and $7,000 for the runner-up. Other payoffs include: $2,000 for sixth round, $1,000 for fifth round, $700 for fourth round, $600 for third round, $400 for second round and $300 for first round.

The Junior Dragster championship payout is a brand-new, turn-key JR Race Car Junior Dragster, plus $3,000-to-win. It is $2,000 for the runner-up, $1,000 for sixth round, $800 for fifth round, $500 for fourth round, $400 for third round, $350 for second round and $300 for first round.

Top — Dion Degnitz (Wisconsin) 5.261 on a 5.26 dial-in, .010 reaction time defeated Jim Shawn (Immokalee) FOULED

 

Mod — Nathan Sexton (Elk Creek) 8.287 on an 8.28 dial-in, .035 reaction time defeated Aaron Brown (Skyview) 8.021 on an 8.00 dial-in, .042 reaction time.

 

Junior — Blaine Bragg (Carolina) 7.932 on a 7.93 dial-in, .006 reaction time defeated Skylar Bustle (Farmington) 7.939 on a 7.93 dial-in, .009 reaction time.
