“I started laughing and then started to cry because I knew how proud my dad would be,” Madison Fisher said. “I just never thought I could do something like this.”
With the win Fisher who originally is from Cincinnati, Ohio but now resides in Loxahatchee, Fla., represented Immokalee Regional Raceway, Immokalee, Fla., took home $10,000 from Summit Racing Equipment, a seven-night/eight-day vacation for two on the island of Aruba, world championship Ironman Trophy, a world championship diamond ring and a IHRA Gold Card.
“Winning the IHRA Summit SuperSeries World Finals means so much to me,” Fisher said. “I now have to decide who I want to bring with me to Aruba to celebrate!”
Fisher has been racing since she was 8 years old. She grew up in a racing family with her grandpa and dad racing door cars. Her sisters Deanna and Marissa raced junior dragsters before passing the torch down to Madison in the same dragster her sisters ran.
Heading into Saturday it seemed as winning the IHRA Summit SuperSeries World Finals would have been a long shot for Fisher who felt like she couldn’t do anything right red lighting in the first round of Gambler’s race.
“My dad and I actually were arguing on the phone Friday when I red-lighted,” Fisher recalled. “He called my mom and asked her to calm me down. My mom told me to get the jitters and nervousness out now and to focus on the big show Saturday. Both of my parents have always told me to just relax and go out and do my thing.”
The experience from her families racing helped Fisher win with a stellar 7.943 second pass at 80.91 mph with a .039 reaction time. She defeated Trent Phann, Baxter, Tenn., representing Buffalo Valley Dragway who had a 7.829 second pass at 79.14 mph with a .060 reaction time.
The 2006 HalfScale Dragster with a Blossom Racing Engine allowed Fisher to make consistent passes during the weekend and has been part of the Fisher family dating back to when her sisters raced.
“The car I have is sentimental to me,” said Fisher. “My mom is in the Army and we traveled a lot and met many great people growing our racing family along the way.”
Fisher qualified for the 2020 IHRA Summit SuperSeries World Finals by winning the Immokalee Regional Raceway Junior Dragster track championship.
“Racing at the Summit SuperSeries World Finals was a surreal experience going head to head against the top Junior Dragster racers,” said Fisher.
By winning the IHRA World Finals, Fisher became the sixth female driver to win an IHRA World Championship following in the footsteps of drivers such as Bunny Burkett, Elaine Larsen and most recently 2018 IHRA Summit SuperSeries World Champion Kyla Feit.
Fisher has etched her name in the history book joining an exclusive category in the IHRA.
“It is cool to accomplish the feat of becoming one of only a few women to capture a championship in the IHRA,” said Fisher. “I have to thank my mom, dad, grandma and grandpa for taking me racing and being there to support me in the sport I love the most.”
