Nitro, jets and more invade Edinburg Raceway April 27

Wednesday, 09 January 2013

Thunder Jam is known for jets, wheelstanders and lots and lots of fire.

But in 2013 Thunder Jam will be introducing a new element to its one-of-a-kind thrill show – the raw, unbelievable power of nitromethane.

For the uninitiated, nitro is known as the fastest fuel in the land and it powers some of the most exciting race machines on the planet. Producing an unmistakable smell, an explosive launch and speeds over 200 mph, nitro racing is the most exciting form of motorsports on earth. And in 2013 fans of Thunder Jam will see nitro power up close and personal for the first time ever beginning at Thunder Jam’s return to Edinburg Raceway April 27.

SuperShockwave Jet Truck

Home to one of the biggest crowds in series history, Thunder Jam will return to the all-new Edinburg Raceway with a show that promises to rock south Texas featuring nitro-powered Fuel Altereds and Nitro Harleys, the world’s only side-by-side battle of jet-powered trains, the 30,000 horsepower Super Shockwave jet truck, the Chevy Rebellion Wheelstander and much more.

And it can all be seen for the incredible price of $25 for adults and $10 for kids 12 and under.

“This is the event everyone has been waiting for,” said Thunder Jam President Aaron Polburn. “Edinburg has long been one of the biggest stops for Thunder Jam and now we are returning with a show unlike any other. And with the creative assistance of new owner Freddy Cruz, we expect to put on a show south Texas fans will be talking about for a long, long time.”

Easily the biggest main event in Thunder Jam history, the main attraction at the Edinburg Thunder Jam will be the debut of nitro racing as the out-of-control Fuel Altereds “Blind Faith” and “Arizona Thunder” do battle on the south-Texas strip. 2011 Fuel Altered World Champion Ron Maroney will wheel the “Blind Faith” machine, while Mike Hilsabeck handles duties on the “Arizona Thunder” altered.

Also in action at the Edinburg Thunder Jam will be Richard Hutchins’ “Chevy Rebellion” wheelstander powering down the quarter-mile on only its rear wheels, the 30,000 horsepower, flame-throwing Super Shockwave jet-powered ’57 Chevy and the world’s only battle of the jet trains between the “Cannonball Express” and the “Chattanooga Choo-Choo”.

And the entire event will take place at the all-new Edinburg Raceway. New owner Freddy Cruz promises a night fans will never forget as he prepares the only dragstrip south of San Antonio for its biggest event of the year.

In addition to all the on-track action, fans will also be able to take part in the AMSOIL Pit Party beginning at 6:30 p.m. The AMSOIL Pit Party features driver autographs including an opportunity to meet the stars of Thunder Jam and an opportunity to win cool prizes and tour the pits.

Tickets for the April 27 event are just $25 for adults and $10 for children (12 and under).Tickets are available day of show at the gate. Showtime is scheduled for 8 and 10 p.m.
