Drag racing icon Don "Big Daddy" Garlits got a surprise celebration for his 93 ½ birthday - an inside joke that was started by Ted Wolf! Wolf, who used to compete against Garlits in Top Fuel in the ‘70s, started celebrating half birthdays when his father turned 90 1/2. It’s a tradition that he’s kept up until this day, and he shared the story with IHRA owner Darryl Cuttel at the season opener at Darana Raceway - Hebron.

Cuttell loved the story and wanted to join in on the fun. Therefore, Wolf coordinated for the cake to be delivered to Garlits on his half-birthday (July 14). “Big Daddy” was surprised by the gesture, as you can see by the smile on his face.
