CLAY CITY, Ky. — Kentucky Dragway had its largest event of the season and its biggest Memorial Weekend Remember and Honor race ever last week.

The action kicked off with the Friday Night City 64 race with Zach Combs the winner and Charley Denny runner-up.

Saturday featured a full day of racing with Justin Gaffney the winner in Top ET and Chris Moore his final-round opponent. There was another strong showing from the Combs family as Laine Blackburn won in Modified and “Lil” Phil Combs was runner-up.

In other IHRA Summit SuperSeries classes, Joseph Willoughby took the Sportsman victory over William Swanigan in the final round. Noah Jent was the Junior Dragster winner and Tyler Cromer raced to a final-round appearance.

Garry Gosney captured the Trophy Eliminator win and Swanigan scored his second runner-up finish. Chase Ramey was the winner of a special Pit Vehicle race.

Moving to Sunday and Charley Denny finished one spot better with his Top ET victory. Keith Purvis also reached the final round. Anthony Blackburn triumphed in the Modified class with Danny Berryman squeezing out a runner-up finish.

Chuck Carrillo found the winner’s circle for the Sportsman class with Paul Day his final-round opponent. Day doubled up with a win in the Trophy Eliminator class, beating Logan Dennis in the final round.

Payton Tyra took top honors in Junior Dragster and Tyler Cromer was runner-up for a second straight day.

Another huge event is scheduled for Kentucky Dragway with the 45th annual King of the Bluegrass race on June 7. Besides the Top ET, Modified, Sportsman and Junior Dragster classes, there are also Quick 16 and Lil Gangster 5.3 races.
