Martino, Weis headline Pro-Am qualifying efforts at Virginia Motorsports Park

DINWIDDIE, Va. โ€” Tom Martino had the fastest dragster Scott Weis was best of the door cars during Thursdayโ€™s Pro-Am qualifying at the IHRA Outlaw Nitro Series race at Virginia Motorsports Park. Live streaming of the event was featured on IHRA.TV.

Martino, the legendary Top Dragster driver from Ohio, had both the quickest time at 3.782 seconds and the fastest speed at 191.02 mph. Maryland driver Richard Smith was No. 2 on both accounts at 3.839 seconds and 190.94 mph.

Weis, racing in his home state, led Top Sportsman qualifying for a second straight race in his 1963 Corvette. He powered down the track in 3.881 seconds an 189.10 mph. He beat West Virginiaโ€™s Ronnie Proctor for the No. 1 spot, who also broke the four-second barrier at 3.989 seconds and 188.17 mph.

Super Stock drivers Josh Barczy and Russell Ghent swapped places from the first race of the season. This time, Barczy was atop the ladder with a 8.978-second run on a 10.50 Index. Fellow North Carolina racer Ghent went 9.782 seconds on an 11.30 Index for the No. 2 qualifying spot.

South Carolina hotshoe Jim Marshall earned his second consecutive No. 1 qualifier in Stock with a 10.802 second pass on a 12.60 Index. Jack Line was second on the ladder with a 9.987 second run on an 11.79 Index.

Super Rod saw Canadian driver Vito Bosca dead-on his 9.90 Index at 144.92 mph in his Chevrolet Camaro. It bumped Pennsylvania race Richard Price from the No. 1 spot, despite being just .001 over the index at 162.76 mph in his Corvette.

Tennessee teenager Troy Barton matched the 8.90 Index in Quick Rod. The young driver went 176.42 mph in his dragster. Veteran racer Vincent Nobile was .009 off the index with his speed of 184.65 mph.

 

Nicholas Reavis earned his second straight No. 1 qualifier in Hot Rod, going 10.909 seconds and 133.04 mph on a 10.90 Index. Ashley Parker was barely off his time at 10.910 seconds and 133.09 mph.
