No Box Finalists

ODESSA, Texas — It’s still early in the season, but racing has been red hot at Penwell Knights Raceway in the IHRA Summit SuperSeries.

Mikel McQueen led the group of Saturday winners with his final-round victory over Bobby Coppedge in the Box class. It was an all-Gossett final in No Box where Benny Gossett won when his son Collin triggered the red light.

Veteran Robert Schoemer was the winner in the Sportsman class where he faced off with Ronnie Seely in the final. Tadd Sprayberry took the win in Motorcycle as David Baugh was runner-up on the bikes.

It was a busy day for Shane McKinney, who captured the win in Junior Dragster and raced to a runner-up finish in the Teen Challenge. Mallorie Stevens was the winner of the Teen Challenge, while Triston Lowery finished runner-up in the Junior Dragster class.

There was also fantastic action with a pair of Gamblers races. Morris Hopkins won the Box Gamblers over Ricky Pope. It was a showdown in No Box where Jeramy Tally won with Collin Gossett getting another runner-up finish.

McQueen leads the Box point standings with Tom Hollifield and Stacy Bailey currently second and third. With his big weekend, Benny Gossett holds the No Box points lead over Taylor Sawyers and Mike Herndon.

Clay Gossett (Sportsman), Tadd Sprayberry (Motorcycle), Shane McKinney (Teen Challenge) and Triston Lowery (Junior Dragster) are other points leaders.

The Skinny Kid Heads Up Series comes to Penwell Knights on June 20-21. The IHRA Summit SuperSeries returns July 12. Check out the track’s Facebook page for more exciting events.
