Five Earn Thursday Gamblers Wins at IHRA Division 5 Team Finals

ALBANY, Ind. (Sept. 5) — Five racers emerged victorious in Thursday Gamblers races at the IHRA Division 5 (Thunder) Team Finals at Muncie Dragway.

Alex High (Top), Dustin Jones (Mod), Randy Wolfe (Sportsman), Scott Sheppeard (Motorcycle) and Kaiden Travis (Junior Dragster) all scored wins to open up the racing action at the historic Indiana track.

High was .003 above his 4.89 dial-in with a 140.07 mph run to beat Todd Clark in the Top final round. The two were almost dead-even at the start, with .013 reaction time for High and .014 for Clark, who broke out from his 6.32 dial-in with a 6.312-second pass at 108.80 mph.

Jones won on a holeshot to defeat Wesley Sargent, who was perfect on his 6.22 dial-in. It couldn’t overcome Jones leaving at .003 to .094 for Sargent. Jones then went down the track in 6.924 seconds at 96.96 mph on a 6.89 dial-in. Sargent finished runner-up with a 111.53 mph speed posted.

Wolfe earned the Sportsman win. He made a final-round run of 8.745 seconds at 75.85 mph against an 8.72 dial-in time. He paired that effort with a .077 reaction time.

Sheppeard was another one with a winning reaction time, going .018 at the start to .078 for runner-up Bob Nugent on Motorcycles. Sheppeard was also 5.653 seconds at 123.05 mph on a 5.63 dial-in. Nugent went under with a 5.551-second pass at 121.76 mph on a 5.56 dial-in.

A near-perfect .001 start propelled Travis to the Junior Dragster win. He followed with an 8.084-second run at 80.81 mph on an 8.06 dial-in. Cooper Hamelen was runner-up despite a solid effort, which included going 7.622 seconds at 84.38 mph against a 7.61 dial and a .052 reaction time.
