Herzhauser Racing, Ohio State Reformatory’s “Blood Prison” Team Up for IHRA Outlaw Nitro Series at Dragway 42

WEST SALEM, Ohio — The IHRA Outlaw Nitro Series at Dragway 42 is set to get a spooky twist. Herzhauser Racing has announced a one-race partnership with the historic Ohio State Reformatory, home to the legendary haunted attraction, Blood Prison.

The team’s nitro Funny Car, driven by veteran Joe Morrison and tuned by the experienced hand of Jimbo Ermalovich, will roll to the line September 24–27, sporting a special livery that brings together two Ohio traditions: nitro drag racing and one of the nation’s most famous haunted experiences.

Just 30 minutes from Dragway 42, the Ohio State Reformatory in Mansfield is best known as the filming location for The Shawshank Redemption. It also houses the North Central Ohio Industrial Museum and paranormal tours that draw visitors year-round. 

In the fall, the imposing structure transforms into Blood Prison, one of the most popular haunted attractions in the Midwest. This year’s opening weekend kicks off Friday, September 26—perfectly timed with the IHRA’s return to West Salem.
