HOLLY SPRINGS, MS — Holly Springs Motorsports has served as host of the IHRA Division 2 (Heat Wave) Team Finals for the past three years.

On Saturday, the home track squad held their hands high as champions after winning 67-56 over Beacon Dragway in the team standings. Skelton Raceway, I-57 Dragstrip, Music City Raceway, Centerville Dragway, and Newport Raceway also participated.

Holly Springs’ own Jeff Bobo parked his white Chevrolet S-10 pickup in the winner’s circle in the Top (Box) class. He picked up the big check for $6,000 and the special IHRA Ironman trophy. Clayton Mitchell from Beacon Dragway came up one position short in his green and black dragster.

Thomas Kleppin, a Music City Raceway driver, also picked up a $6,000 winner’s check and special Ironman in the Mod (No Box) class. He drove his red Oldsmobile to the win over runner-up Jason England from Beacon in a black Mustang.

Sean McPhillips from Centerville Dragway kept Kleppin from doubling up in the Sportsman class. McPhillips piloted his red Mustang to the $4,000 victory by outdueling Kleppin in the final round.

Music City Raceway riders took the top two spots in the Motorcycle class. Drew McClain rode his blue Kawasaki to the victory with Jordan Weiss taking runner-up honors.

Junior Dragster featured an all-Skelton Raceway final. Gavin Jones was the winner with Miley Nichols as his final-round opponent. Beacon Dragway’s Brantly Forrester rounded out the list of individual winners in Teen Street. I-57 Dragstrip took the Track Operators’ Race win.

Special awards went to the following:

Best Appearing Car / Truck: Charlie Lockhart
Best Appearing Open-Bodied Car: Cecil Whitaker
Best Appearing Motorcycle: Logan Whitlock
Best Appearing Junior Dragster: Mason Acosta

A recap of Friday’s Gamblers and the Race of Champions will be coming up. More IHRA Team Finals are on tap this week with the IHRA Division 3 (North Stars) at Quaker City Motorsports Park.
