Image × WEST SALEM, Ohio — Ashley Johnson in Top Dragster and Bob Mandell III in Top Sportsman set quick times in Pro-Am time trials Thursday for the IHRA Outlaw Nitro Series race at Darana Dragway - West Salem in Ohio. Johnson powered down the former Dragway 42 strip in 3.760 seconds and 193.38 mph. Craig Addis was second at 3.779 seconds and 181.31 mph. Tom Martino was third, followed by Matt Albright, who was fourth, and Tyson Fabish, who was fifth. Overall, seven drivers broke the 4-second barrier. Mandell set quick time in the Top Sportsman ranks with a 4.108-second pass at 181.16 mph. Scott Wasko was next up at 4.133 seconds and 174.22 mph. Aaron Glaser, Chris Wheatcraft and Corey Fleig rounded out the top five with 41 qualifiers for the 32-car field. Earl Roe topped the list for Super Stock with a 6.407-second elapsed time at 105.86 mph. Jeffrey Ross, Andy Kronebitter and Augustus Adkins were the rest of the top five. Scott Klingler paced the Stock field with a 6.386-second pass at 106.86 mph. Nick Reiter was second, followed by Zac Ross, Bobby Lundholm and Stephen Tucholsky. The Super Rod, Quick Rod and Hot Rod classes also made their way on the track. They, along with the Nitro classes, will resume qualifying today.
