Rocket City Racers Rack Up at ROC, Gamblers Race

HARVEST, Ala. — Racers from Rocket City Dragway racked up home-track victories at the IHRA Division 8 (South) Race of Champions and Friday Gamblers race.

Rocket City doubled up with Mark Taylor, driving Josh Green’s car, to the win in the Mod (No Box) class and Don Chavous’ victory during the Race of Champions. Alabama International Dragway’s Kevin Pass broke the Rocket City stranglehold by taking top honors in the Top (Box) class.

Rocket City had two more Race of Champion wins as Bradley Richardson powered to the Sportsman victory, and Kaden Taylor was victorious in the Junior Dragster ranks.

FRIDAY GAMBLERS
Scotty Fields got the Top (Box) win over Lance Kittle as both drivers fouled at the start. Fields was just -.0005 too quick at the tree and went ahead to post a 5.073-second pass at 132.78 mph on a 5.06 dial-in. Kittle’s -.011 red-light erased a potential winning effort of 6.151 seconds at 110.46 mph on a 6.15 dial.

In an all-Kay final, Tucker Kay got the best of Jarrett Kay in the Mod (No Box) class. Tucker’s time of 5.903 seconds at 115.30 against a 5.92 dial-in time  was coupled with a .009 reaction time. Jarrett was way off the mark at 7.825 seconds and 57.96 mph after a .-018 start.

Justin Scarberry won the Sportsman final on a holeshot with a fantastic .002 start against a .037 for runner-up Chad Benda. Scarberry had an 8.843 elapsed time at 78.70 mph against an 8.83 dial-in. Benda broke out on his 7.91 dial-in with a 7.883-second pass at 86.03 mph.

Jesse Varner was part of a big weekend for his family with his Junior Dragster victory. Final-round opponent Mason Boles was a little better at the start .023 to .035, but Varner overcame with an 8.914-second run at 71.34 mph against an 8.90 dial-in. Boyles put up a great fight with a 9.066-second pass at 72.23 mph against a 9.04 dial-in.
