Image × FERRIS, Texas — Host track Xtreme Raceway Park scored its fourth straight and fifth overall IHRA Division 4 (Renegades) Team Finals championship. Xtreme’s No. 1 team scored 70 points to outdistance Penwell Knights Raceway with 49 points. Little River Dragway was third with 43 points, one ahead of Xtreme’s No. 2 team. Edinburg Motorsports Park was fifth with 14 points. It was a powerhouse lineup of racers with Jim Palmer beating defending IHRA SuperSeries World Champion Scott Wallace in the Top (Box) final. Wallace was a little better, .017 to .029 at the tree, but Palmer put together a winning pass of 5.789 seconds and 118.27 mph. Wallace finished in 6.321 seconds and 107.27 mph. Jeromy Helfer, the 2023 Top World Champion, won the Mod (No Box) race when Jake Howard, last year’s IHRA SuperSeries runner-up, red-lighted in the final. Helfer cruised to a 6.440-second run at 81.92 mph after his .013 reaction time. Andrea Ruffin had a .005 start, while Clay Gossett triggered the red light in the Sportsman final. Ruffin completed a strong run with a 7.485-second pass at 89.93 mph on a 7.46 dial-in. Another racer who is no stranger to big wins, Michael Turman, won the Motorcycle final as Steve Landers also fouled at the start. Landers’ red light denied a potential winning effort of 5.891 seconds at 118.30 mph. With the race in hand, Turman cruised to the victory. In the Junior Dragsters, Shane McKinney was the winner after Mason Landers’ breakout on his 9.00 dial-in. Landers had a big advantage at the tree with a .004 reaction time. McKinney stayed with it and posted a 7.893-second run at 82.77 mph. Also, with the younger racers, Mia Valenzuela got the victory over Emma Valenzuela in the TCR final. It was an extremely close race with Mia going 10.379 seconds at 73.37 mph against a 10.19 dial-in. Emma, who had a slightly better reaction time, had a 9.219-second elapsed time at 71.45 mph on a 9.00 dial. Gaylen Smith represented the home track to win the Track Managers race for Xtreme.
