The Carolina Thunder Jam scheduled for Saturday, August 17 at Carolina Dragway has been postponed.
With a less than favorable forecast calling for rain, Thunder Jam and Carolina Dragway officials have postponed the event to a date yet to be determined.
“Due to the terrible forecast and heavy amounts of rain that has already fallen in the region, we wanted to do what was in the best interest of our fans and get out in front of this,” said Jim Marchyshyn, Thunder Jam Operations Manager. “We will regroup and set a new date that will assure a great weekend of action for Thunder Jam fans.”

The Summit Racing Equipment Pro-Am Tour presented by AMSOIL event scheduled for this weekend at Carolina Dragway has been postponed to the followed weekend, August 23-25.
With a less than favorable forecast calling for rain, the IHRA and track management at Carolina Dragway have postponed the event to August 23-25. The weekend schedule will be the same as the original dates.
“Due to the terrible forecast and the heavy amounts of rain that has already fallen in the region, we wanted to do what was the best interest of our racers and get out in front of this thing,” said Frank Kohutek, IHRA Division Director. “That area has had a lot of rain lately and it doesn’t look like there is going to be a break anytime soon. By pushing the date back a week we can give the area a chance to dry out and give our competitors the best race possible.”

The Summit Racing Equipment Pro-Am Tour presented by AMSOIL doubleheader at Farmington Dragway has been rescheduled for the weekend of September 20-22 at the Mocksville, North Carolina facility.
Rain, mud and a Sunday curfew were the contributing factors that led to the first true doubleheader in Division 9 Pro-Am history to have to be rescheduled to a later date. The event will follow the same format and schedule as originally announced on the new date and will be run to completion.

Vernon Rowland and Team PCD Graphics were the class of the field at the IHRA’s Northern Nitro Jam at U.S. 131 Motorsports Park over the weekend, reaching four finals in two classes on their way to a solid points day in the final Division 3 race of the season.
Rowland visited three finals by himself, driving his brightly colored PCD Wraps and Graphics sponsored dragster to two finals in Quick Rod with one win and another final in Super Rod in his ’85 Calais. Teammate Chase Huffman added a runner-up in Quick Rod in an all Team PCD final on Saturday.
Other winners from the Nitro Jam and Summit Racing Equipment Pro-Am Tour presented by AMSOIL doubleheader were Scott Wasko and John Hochstedler (Top Sportsman), Steve van der Sloot and Erin Staley (Top Dragster), Mark Nowicki and Michael Beard (Super Stock), Chris Stephenson and T.C. Just moments after crossing the finish line Saturday night during round one of the CarSafe Northern Nitro Jam at U.S. 131 Motorsports Park, Dom Lagana leapt from his car and sent the IHRA safety crew into a tizzy.
Was Dom’s Top Fuel Dragster on fire? Was there an issue no one could see?
Then the call came in from top end, “don’t worry guys, he is just celebrating.”
Indeed Lagana had stopped on the track, but it was just to release some energy and give his big brother and crew a hug worthy of a record-setting occasion. After all Dom Lagana had just made the fastest pass in the 40+ year history of the International Hot Rod Association.
Now that is how you put on a show!
From an amazing Top Fuel final to an earth-shattering side-by-side jet truck run to close the evening, Friday’s Northern Nitro Jam opener at U.S. 131 Motorsports Park was one for the ages.
With the Lagana brothers attempting their quickest Top Fuel pass in history, younger brother Dom got the “Nitro Ninja” Top Fuel Dragster close with a 4.682 second pass at 317.15 miles per hour, but there is still work to be done. And Dom will be swinging for the fences on Saturday in an attempt to reach the magical 4.50 second zone in the quarter-mile.

The year was 2003.
Clay Millican was still king of the IHRA Top Fuel world and there was little anyone could do about it. Millican won 10 out of 12 races that year on his way to a runaway victory in the championship over Bruce Litton, his third of six titles in a row.
But buried among Millican’s gaudy stats and impressive accomplishments was another major feat by another, lesser funded team that would prove a turning point in the career of two brothers. That year Bobby and Dom Lagana eclipsed the two biggest barriers in the world of drag racing and they did it all at one race – the 2003 Northern Nationals at U.S. 131 Motorsports Park.
