"The NTS 11.50 class had a good start at the Southern Nationals in Bradenton, Florida and the Maryland International Raceway President's Cup Nationals. The US 131 Motorsports Park Nitro Jam is the third distinct region in which we are testing the class to see how it develops throughout the year." said Skooter Peaco, IHRA's Vice President of Race Operations. "This class is a way to introduce heads-up racing to a large number of No Box competitors who want to try old-school heads-up racing without major changes to their race cars. NTS 11.50 prohibits delay boxes and throttle stops, while mechanical fixed or restrictor plate style methods of slowing the car will be allowed. To help grow the class, IHRA memberships will not be required for the 2015 events."
The NTS 11.50 class will also compete at the newly scheduled San Antonio Nationals held at San Antonio Raceway in Texas this coming August 14-16, 2015. This will be the fourth and final competition for the new class during he IHRA 2015 Nitro Jam season.
Winners in the NTS 11.50 class are awarded a coveted IHRA Ironman trophy and $1,000. The runner-up will receive $500. During this trial run, the NTS 11.50 class will not award points and racers who enter this class will not be allowed to compete in other Summit Racing Pro-Am Tour classes.
