Featuring three full days of championship drag racing and one of the largest assortments of racing classes in the world, the annual MOPAR Rocky Mountain Nitro Jam Nationals has something for fans of all ages and it all gets underway July 6-8 at legendary Castrol Raceway.
And in 2012 Castrol Raceway will celebrate 10 years of hosting Canada’s biggest straight line motorsports festival with the biggest event yet July 6-8 at Canada’s premier motorsports destination.
“Edmonton is one of the biggest and most exciting events on the Nitro Jam schedule and has been for some time. Nowhere in drag racing can you see a larger variety of racing classes and witness three full days of non-stop drag racing all without an empty seat in the house,” said IHRA President Aaron Polburn. “You can feel the intensity on the track as these drivers know what it means to win against the best and that is exactly what this race provides – the best racing in Canada.”
Dating back to its debut in 2003, the MOPAR Rocky Mountain Nitro Jam Nationals has earned quite a reputation for its over-the-top presentation and exciting racing combining regular Nitro Jam classes with dozens of extras along with a huge assortment of western Canada’s best sportsman racers.
From the thrill of the professional classes to the championship aspirations of hundreds of local racers, the 2012 version of the MOPAR Rocky Mountain Nitro Jam Nationals will be the biggest Nitro Jam yet as Castrol Raceway and the IHRA pull out all the stops to create a unique event unlike any before.
In all a grand total of over a dozen professional and sportsman classes will fill the lanes at Castrol Raceway, headlined by the biggest sportsman race in western Canada as drivers jockey for position and a rare spot in the year-end Summit Racing Equipment Tournament of Champions presented by AMSOIL.
In the professional ranks a grand total of four nitro and two additional classes will fill the lanes at Castrol Raceway including the return of 300 mile per hour Top Fuel Dragsters to Nitro Jam competition, plus a full field of Nitro Harleys and Nostalgia Fuel Altereds.
But the biggest race of the weekend will take place during Nitro Jam’s second-ever open AMSOIL Prostalgia Nitro Funny Car competition as two-time defending Funny Car champion and Edmonton native Tim Boychuk in the “Troy Lee Designs” entry takes on dozens of the best Funny Car pilots in the country for the biggest prize of the weekend.
The MOPAR Rocky Mountain Nitro Jam Nationals will also feature more Nostalgia Funny Car and Alcohol Funny Car action, the 30,000 horsepower Shockwave jet semi and the Canadian debut of the Grave Digger versus Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle monster truck showdown in the “biggest” drag race in the world.
Among the stars that will try to make history in Edmonton are former Top Fuel champions and Edmonton race winners Bruce Litton and Bobby Lagana Jr., west coast Funny Car star, last year’s winner and Edmonton native Tim Boychuk, defending Nitro Harley winner Jay Turner, the always wild Sekura brothers in the Pro Nostalgia Funny Car category, plus Monster Jam superstars Randy Brown and Joey Parnell and much more.
Last year’s professional race winners were Bobby Lagana (TF), Tim Boychuk (PNFC), Ron Maroney (FA) and Jay Turner (NH).
This year fans can expect more of the same as many of the best racers in the west converge on Castrol Raceway for Canada’s biggest motorsports event.
