ATI participates in the IHRA’s contingency program, and new this year, Junior Dragsters are eligible.
Family-owned and operated since 1961, Jim Beattie, who has passed away, built the business from a modest transmission rebuilding shop in Silver Spring, Md., to become one of the largest and most respected transmission brands in all of drag racing.
Beattie, a 2012 inductee into the Maryland International Raceway Hall of Fame, was one of the pioneers of automatic transmission development in the late 1960s. He improved both their reliability and performance. He later developed the Trick Lock Trans brake, and in the 25th anniversary of ATI introduced the Super Damper, which quickly became the balancer of choice for racers and crew chiefs in the IHRA, NASCAR, and every other form of motorsports.
JC Beattie Jr., who has been at ATI for 17 years since finishing college, has the same passion for racing as his father and for making only high-quality parts in their Baltimore facility. JC, who earned a degree in Business Management at UNC-Charlotte, finished third in the Parts Pro Truck Series in 1998-99 and competed in 66 races from 2000-04 in the ASA Stock Car Series along the way.
But, JC returned to his drag racing roots and often sits behind the wheel of a 2009 Drag Pak Stocker or 2012 Super Stock COPO Camaro equipped with ATI parts to give ATI customers true track-tested and proven products. He also races the COPO in some heads-up competition and ATI now has a 6-second Top Sportsman car in-house to help further develop their products.
His efforts add to ATI’s reputation for cutting-edge technology, attention to detail and rigorous testing under race conditions. By staying true to these basic principles, ATI has built a loyal customer base; many of whom still use parts purchased from ATI in the 1980s. The durability of their products offers great value to the IHRA’s grassroots, Sportsman racers.
Today, ATI manufacturers a multitude of high performance parts including competition transmissions such as the incomparable Superglide® and Max Duty lines, Treemaster Converters®, Super Dampers®, Compu-Flow® and Wicked Quick ® Valve Bodies, PG, 350 and 400 SuperCases, Flexplates and Adapter Kits as well as a wide variety of performance enhancing internal transmission components. Innovative designs, partnered with a commitment to racing, allows the company to maintain a prominent position on the cutting edge of high performance component design and manufacturing.
ATI’s manufacturing facility houses one of the most advanced machine shops in the industry. All machinery operations take place in-house so that total quality control can be maintained. There are more than 30 CNC machines operating in the 100,000 square feet plant to ensure that ATI customers receive the highest quality performance components available anywhere.
