The Hot Rod Classic will bring back several exciting classes that have played such a huge part in the IHRA’s history. They include Top Sportsman, Top Dragster, Quick Rod, Super Rod, Hot Rod, Real Steel N/T as drivers compete to take home special black powder-coated IHRA Ironman trophies, big checks, and our re-designed IHRA medal.
The event will also feature bracket races for the Top (Box), Mod (No Box) and Junior Dragster classes with all the above competing on the 1/8-mile.
“So many people have been so excited about this deal because it brings the real IHRA back,” Darlington Dragway President Jeff Miles said. “I’ve been telling people this is when we’re going to announce it and it’s phenomenal the feedback we’ve gotten.”
Exact class rules, event schedules, sponsors and payouts will be released once all the tracks and dates hosting IHRA Hot Rod Classic races are announced. Each event will have a mystery class although the mystery has been solved for Darlington with the exciting, ground-pounding Pro Mods.
“The Saturday night Quick 8 deal was born in Orangeburg, S.C. about an hour and a half from us,” Miles said. “Charlotte is the home of a lot of the racers and they test here on a regular basis. It just made sense to have Pro Mods incorporated into the event.”
For both the IHRA and Darlington Dragway, the 2024 season promises to be one filled with great racing action and tons of excitement. In fact, Darlington’s schedule of races for 2024 is truly busting at the seams with events filling up the calendar.
