Track owner Jason Collins has knowledge of this style of racing first hand. Live streaming of the event will be on the IHRA-TV channel on YouTube.
“It’s a big deal to be part of this,” Collins said. “The first national-event race I ever did was running Super Rod. We went from Super Pro to Pro Stock to some Pro Mod stuff working my way up the ladder.”
There’s a great history of Pro Mod racing in Alabama, the home state of IHRA Hall of Fame racer Shannon Jenkins. Alabama International Dragway has proven to be a great host of major events as it was the site of the IHRA Division 8 (South) Summit Team Finals in 2023.
Along those lines, the IHRA Hot Rod Classic will alsofeature bracket races for the Top (Box), Mod (No Box) and Junior Dragster classes all competing on the 1/8-mile.
Exact class rules, event schedules, sponsors and payouts for the Hot Rod Classic will be released once all the tracks and dates hosting IHRA Hot Rod Classic races are announced. Alabama International Dragway is the third of five dates and locations hosting the IHRA Hot Rod Classic to be announced. Stay tuned to IHRA.com and our social media pages as the final two tracks are revealed next week.
“There’s a place for this type of racing,” Collins said. “Not everyone can travel all over the world. With these events, the IHRA is going to get some new people racing with them.”
It’s just one of many exciting events scheduled for Alabama International Dragway in 2024. If you have any questions about the Hot Rod Classic, please contact IHRA President Mel Roth at mel@ihra.com.
