Farmington Dragway Wins IHRA Division 9 Summit Team Finals Championship

Farmington Dragway outdistanced Elk Creek Dragway by nine points to win the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) Division 9 (Raiders) Summit Team Finals Championship at Piedmont Dragway in Julian, N.C.

Farmington won 60-51 over Elk Creek with the home track of Piedmont third.

Other Division 9 (Raiders) tracks include: Coastal Plains Dragway, Fayetteville Motorsports Park, Wilkesboro Dragway, Greer Dragway, Cherokee RacePark, Mooresville Dragway and Natural Bridge Dragstrip.

Leading up to the main event, drivers also participated in Gambler’s races and “best of” awards.

 

Main Event:

Top

In a battle of Farmington Dragway drivers, Jimmy Collins won an extremely competitive final over Phil Honaker. Collins had the better reaction time .011 to .023 and made a 4.644-second pass on a 4.63 dial-in. Honaker matched his 6.44 dial-in with a 6.449-second run.

Mod

Derrick Harris gave the home track of Piedmont Dragway something to cheer about, winning when his final-round opponent, Jimmy Reeves from Elk Creek Dragway, red-lighted. Harris had a 6.323-second run against a 6.34 dial-in, along with a .027 reaction time. Reeves went 7.965 against an 8.01 dial-in after fouling out by just .003 of a second.

Junior

Keaton Hudson of Elk Creek Dragway won based on a 7.914-second run against a 7.90 dial-in, paired with a .168 reaction time. Tucker Creech from Fayetteville Motorsports Park went down the track in 8.223 seconds against an 8.05 dial-in, along with a .024 reaction time.

Team Captains Race

Mooresville Dragway won the Team Captains race on a holeshot .044 to .147 for Farmington Dragway. Mooresville’s winning run was 11.30 seconds against an 11.31 dial-in, while Farmington had a 9.379-second pass against a 9.38 dial-in.

Friday’s Gambler’s Race

Top — TG Paschal (Piedmont) 14.76 on a 4.75 dial-in, .322 reaction time defeated Mitchell Harkey (Farmington) BROKE.

Mod — Ernie Humes (Farmington) 8.078 on a 9.00 dial-in, .060 reaction time defeated Carson Robbins (Farmington) 7.288 on a 9.00 dial-in, .007 reaction time.

Junior — Nicole Zuccarelli (Coastal Plains) 7.913 on a 7.90 dial-in, .005 reaction time defeated Bethany Sexton (Elk Creek) 7.887 on a 7.90 dial-in, .053 reaction time.

 

Saturday’s Gambler’s Race

Top — Michael Paschal (Piedmont) 4.670 on a 4.66 dial-in, .013 reaction time defeated Robert Hefti (Piedmont) 4.703 on a 4.72 dial-in, -.009 reaction time.

Mod — Ernie Humes (Farmington) 7.146 on a 6.80 dial-in, .036 reaction time defeated Darin Sowers (Elk Creek) 6.191 on a 6.17 dial-in, -.002 reaction time.

Junior — Cody Sims (Greer) 8.130 on an 8.10 dial-in, .001 reaction time defeated Will Dotson (Greer) 8.130 on an 8.98 dial-in, .036 reaction time.
