Muncie Dragway, I-64 Motorplex and Summerduck Dragway are the latest to renew their commitments as IHRA member tracks.
Muncie Dragway opened on Easter Sunday in 1960 and features a 1/4-mile drag strip. The Albany, Indiana facility has its season-opening races are set for this Saturday. The 2017 IHRA Summit SuperSeries track champions for Muncie Dragway were: Dennis Jones in Top (Box), Jack Liggett in Mod (No Box) and Brayde McCreery in Junior Dragsters.
Muncie Dragway’s team of racers made quite an impact at last year’s IHRA Division 5 (Thunder) Summit Team Finals, finishing runner-up in the event which featured some of the most iconic tracks in the Midwest.
I-64 Motorplex features an 1/8-mile track in the rolling hills of Eastern Kentucky on 692 feet of elevation. The Owingsville, Ky., track features a state-of-the-art timing system, and also a family-oriented atmosphere. Charlie Bellomy (Top), Bobby Paul Arnett (Mod) and MacKenzie Byrd (Junior Dragster) earned Summit SuperSeries track championships in 2017.
In addition, I-64 racer Chuck Sanders won the Top victory at the IHRA Division 3 (North Stars) Summit Team Finals and Ray Haynes was awarded the best engineered open-bodied car.
Sumerduck Dragway features an 1/8-mile drag strip in Sumerduck, Va., and has a history of being a top IHRA facility, winning the IHRA Promoters of the Year award in 2006 and named the IHRA Division 1 Summit SuperSeries Track of the Year in 2009.
Summit SuperSeries track champions at the Northern Virginia facility in 2017 included Brian Mollison in the Top ET division, Michael Rudacille in the Modified division and Peyton Bunch in the Junior Dragster class.
