With brighter days ahead, they’ve extended a sanctioning agreement with the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA). They share the IHRA’s commitment to grassroots, Sportsman racing and like how the new IHRA leadership is dedicated to giving more support to the tracks and the competitors than ever before.
“We want to stay with IHRA and make it better for our racers,” Brandy Wruck said.
Obviously, the COVID-19 pandemic was tough for everyone, but it was especially a bumpy road for the Canadian tracks who faced a ton of restrictions. Brandy explained how things have improved since the early days of the pandemic at the track which hosts the IHRA Summit SuperSeries bracket program and MANGAS (Manitoba Gassers and Nostalgia Racers Association).
“It has been challenging. 2020 was a little difficult,” she said. “2021 was a little better. 2022, it was great, but a few guys still couldn’t come over.”
Still, it was the first time since 2019 the Canadian racers were able to cross the U.S. border and compete in the IHRA Summit SuperSeries World Finals.
To show the great passion of the Interlake racers, Mike Hawco (Box representative), Wes Griffiths (No Box) and Skylar Klassen (Junior Dragster) all made the over 2,220-mile trek from Manitoba to race at the IHRA World Finals at Holly Springs, Mississippi.
As for their home track, Interlake is a huge scenic property, a 235-acre, multi-use motorsports complex that also hosts a 1.3-mile road course, a 1-kilometer karting track and a 2-kilometer motocross track.
The 1/4-mile dragstrip and surrounding area feature four sets of grandstands, bathrooms with showers, concessions and plenty of parking and camping. They’re located just 45 minutes from Winnipeg where the majority of Manitoba’s population lives.
It’s truly a place where the racers and fans enjoy themselves and have a great time. To learn more about Interlake Dragway, click here to look over the track’s website.
