This season, KD Motorsports Park is offering something different to its racers. The Ohio facility has joined the International Hot Rod Association and will take part in the IHRA Summit SuperSeries program, the most prestigious national championship in bracket racing.

“We want to grow the bracket racing back,” track owner Anthony DePerno said. “The bracket racing had struggled the past few years. We wanted to bring it from an outlaw bracket to a respected organization. A lot of guys expressed interest over the last few months they would like to see us go IHRA.”

DePerno has owned the facility for two years, but has been involved in racing his entire life. He grew up around a Nitro car and has raced Super Gas, Super Comp and Alcohol Funny Car. DePerno’s own experience bracket racing started with IHRA.

He’s committed to making the facility better for the racers with new restrooms currently under construction. With the new sanctioning agreement, he’s also building on a tradition of KD Motorsports founder Darrell Leadingham as the track first opened as an IHRA facility.

“We’re going back to our roots with IHRA,” DePerno said. “We feel IHRA is going in the right direction.” 

It feels KD Motorsports Park is headed in the right direction as well. Beyond the bracket racing, the track has recently hosted successful No Prep, Big Tire and Small Tire events. DePerno has created a fun atmosphere with “Run What You Brung” and “Daily Driver” classes at the No Prep events.
