If you want to see great competition, the Colonial Beach, Virginia track is hosting the “IHRA Beach Battle” Summit SuperSeries bracket races. If you want fast speeds, the Southern Outlaws are bringing their Top Sportsman machines which run under 5.99 seconds. There’s also the huge Jerry Jones “Muscle Beach” Car Show.
“You have the fast cars along with the beautiful cars in the show going on the same day,” Custom T’s Track Manager Viktor Rasiia said. “We’re expecting a big turnout. Last year, we had rain and we still had 50-100 cars for just the car show. This year with a sunny day, I’m expecting well over 100 cars for the show and over 100 for the IHRA bracket race too.”
They’ve had good turnouts so far and Saturday’s payouts include $2,000-to-win Top ET and $1,500-to-win Mod ET races based on 32-car minimums. It’s $1,000 for the Motorcycle winner based on a 20-bike minimum. Gates open at 9 a.m. and the track goes hot at 11 a.m.
Quan Spain is the early points leader in the track’s Top ET class with Andy Lloyd, Layton Sympter, Kavon Tibbs and Mike Pinder rounding out the top five.
Derron Chesley currently leads the Mod ET standings followed by Lefty Butler and David Weaver. Cobi Toliver and Hunter Groat occupy the rest of the top-five spots.
Clay Davies has the early advantage in Motorcycles with Chuckie Newman and Derek Burkheard Jr. second and third. Lefty Butler appears again, fourth among the bike riders with Bubba Driscoll and Nick Hamlett tied for fifth.
The Junior Dragsters have Hailey Pumphrey out front with a 10-point advantage over Jordon Denny. Alexis Lusby, Mason Dudley and Cobi Toliver fill the rest of the top five.
Racers do keep in mind, you must be an IHRA member to be eligible to win the track’s Summit SuperSeries championship and have the chance to qualify for the 2023 IHRA World Finals on October 5-7 at Holly Springs, Mississippi. The overall purses and prize packages for the IHRA Summit SuperSeries World Finals are now valued over $275,000.
