Love of the Sport Apparent at IHRA Member Track Paris Dragstrip

Friday, 19 January 2024

PARIS, Texas — Paris, France is known for its romantic settings. Paris, Texas is known for its love of drag racing.

The historic Paris Dragstrip continues to be a site where that love of the sport is shown throughout the year. Paris Dragstrip, which has renewed its sanctioning agreement with the International Hot Rod Association, features a busy schedule of events at the North Texas track.

Track owner Randy Boren let the racers decide when it was time to join the IHRA before the 2023 season. An overwhelming majority voted to join IHRA as programs like the IHRA Summit SuperSeries have been incredibly popular.

Drivers who qualified for the IHRA Summit SuperSeries World Finals through the Paris Dragstrip’s points were: Jason Bolton (Top), Justin Enox (Mod), Andrea Ruffin (Sportsman), Michael Turman (Motorcycle) and Isaac Bolton (Junior Dragster).

In addition, D.J. Ray qualified for the World Finals by winning the Mod race at the IHRA Division 4 (Renegades) Summit Team Finals. As further evidence of how much the racers enjoyed the Summit Team Finals, Paris Dragstrip was recognized with the Best Team Spirit and Best Appearing Team awards.

Paris Dragstrip also hosted an IHRA Ironman Classic in July as part of the Red River Valley Shootout. Jason Bolton won the Top class in his dragster, while Bobo Marshall (Mod), Carter Jones (Sportsman) and Phillip Jones (Junior Dragster) were the other event winners.

The love of racing is led by Boren, who has competed both on the drag strip and a modified driver on the dirt tracks, and track promoter Matthew Harding. Multiple members of the Boren family, including Randy’s wife, son and daughter, are involved in racing and running the race track.

Paris Dragstrip first opened in 1964 as a 1/4-mile track and was shortened to an 1/8-mile in 1993. Since taking over, Boren has made improvements such as work on the shutdown area and staging lanes. He also laid down new asphalt on the return road and built a pair of new women’s restrooms.

It’s a labor of love, making sure the facility and sport stays strong in that region. There’s an exciting schedule of events in 2024 with the first TNT Bracket Series races on April 6, the first IHRA Summit SuperSeries points races April 20 and the Street Outlaws JJ DaBoss hosting a major two-day show April 26-27.

The Red River Rivalry is not just for the football field with a Texas vs. Oklahoma race event on June 8-9. Other great events are slated through the end of October.
