With the emphasis on the youth racers and paydays of $5,000 to the winner and $1,000 for the runner-up, Mason is looking for a strong contingent of racers.
“It is our first big junior race and we’re expecting a big turnout,” she said. “We want the kids to have their own day. We didn’t see where anyone in Virginia or North Carolina was doing that. I saw some races in Florida, but I didn’t see anything locally where there was an all-day kids event.”
There’s also a test-and-tune, plus a first-ever parents race on Friday. The parents race is $1,000-to-win with $350 for the other finalist. Sunday action includes racing for 13.90, 11.90, 8.90 and 7.90 indexes.
Besides the competition itself, the race is for a good cause, bringing attention to autism. It’s just one of several things this year the track will be doing for the cause.
“We’re giving away awards for the best decorated pits, the best decorated golf cart for an autism awareness event,” Mason said.
It’s $200 to race all three days if you pre-register before Wednesday, May 3.
