Division 4 wraps season with rain-delayed Day 2 at Dallas Raceway

Wednesday, 24 July 2013

Following a week off, plenty of rest and some car much needed car tune-ups the racers of the International Hot Rod Association’s Division 4 were back in action at Dallas Raceway with the conclusion of the Summit Racing Equipment Pro-Am Tour presented by AMSOIL event in Crandall, Texas.

With rain washing out the first attempt at concluding the Renegades season, racers returned for a second shot exactly one week later and wrapped the season with an exciting race full of surprises.

Jacob Pitt and Mike Frederick Sr. highlighted the week-delayed doubleheader as Frederick won both Hot Rod races and Pitt reached the finals three times in two different classes during the busy weekend.

Other winners during the final race of the Division 4 season were Trent Wilson (Top Sportsman), David Johns (Top Dragster), Tony Cowell (Super Stock), Jimmy Hidalgo Jr. (Stock), Jake Levatino (Quick Rod), Laramie Reid (Super Rod) and Frederick (Hot Rod). Junior Dragster winners were Regan Jordan (Master), Aaron Jordan (Advanced) and William Medina (Beginner).

Pitt, out of Mansfield, Texas, reached two finals during the rain-delayed weekend, failing to get in the winner’s circle in either Super Stock and Stock. In both races Pitt was done in by his reaction time as both Cowell and Hidalgo had tremendous lights, offsetting Pitt’s near dead-on dials. Pitt was also runner-up during Day 1 in Super Stock to Sharon Bogues.

Mike Frederick

Beaumont, Texas’ Mike Frederick Sr. had easily the biggest weekend in Dallas, taking two wins in Hot Rod and putting himself right in the thick of the hunt for a spot in the Division 4 top three in the standings. With a shot at the Tournament of Champions on the line for all drivers that finish in the top three in their division, Frederick needed a big weekend to keep in contention and did just that with wins over Hank Stephens and Cy Hill.

Frederick’s win over Hill was decided by just .004 seconds at the line with Frederick posting a .027 reaction time to Hill’s .028 while running a 10.926 second pass at 140.75 miles per hour in the 10.90 class. Hill ran a 10.929, 141.30 – a difference of roughly 10 inches at the stripe.

David Johns had a similar experience in Top Dragster, seemingly securing a Tournament of Champions spot thanks to a win over David Jones in the final in Dallas. In the biggest class on the property Johns went six rounds ending with a very close win thanks to a 7.241, 180.89 pass on a 7.24 dial.

Super Rod competitor Laramie Reid pushed his ’06 Corvette roadster to the top of the Division 4 standings in that class with a win over Clayton Nance with a narrow .013 margin of victory.

Trent Wilson collected the win in Top Sportsman over Scooter Hampton, while Jake Levatino downed Texas heavy hitter Tommy Phillips in Quick Rod.

In the Junior Dragster ranks Regan Jordan defeated Cory Gulitti in the Masters division, Aaron Jordan beat Kenneth Hillin in Advanced and William Medina downed Trace Casey in Beginner.
