IHRA announces Division 6 Summit Pro-Am Tour schedule

Thursday, 16 January 2014

The International Hot Rod Association has announced the schedule for the Division 6 Summit Racing Equipment Pro-Am Tour presented by AMSOIL season.

The schedule will be comprised of six races combined into three double-headers. Points will be calculated on the best four finishes of the six race series. The racers finishing in the top three positions in points in each class at the end of the series will go on to compete in the 2014 Summit Racing Equipment Tournament of Champions presented by AMSOIL at Memphis International Raceway in October.

The first stop on the Summit Pro-Am tour will take place on June 28-29 at the NL’AKAPXM Eagle Motorplex located between the small towns of Ashcroft and Cache Creek in the interior of British Columbia. Known for their friendly hospitality it is always an event that the racers look forward to.

The second double-header will take place July 4-5 at Castrol Raceway in Edmonton, Alberta during the historical Mopar Rocky Mountain Nitro Jam Nationals combining the fierce competition of the IHRA’s premier sportsman series with the battle of the professional classes. The Mopar Rocky Mountain Nationals weekend is consistently one of the highlights of the IHRA season.

The six race series will wrap-up July 12-13 at a brand new venue, Northern Lights Raceway in Fort St. John, British Columbia. Located approximately eight hours northwest of Edmonton, it is home to 2013 IHRA Top Sportsman World Champion Graham Foster.

“I am very excited and very happy to see the incredible lineup we have for the 2014 Summit Pro-Am Tour here in Division 6,” said John Carnahan, IHRA Division Director. “Our division had an excellent showing at the 2013 Summit World Finals in Memphis last year. We are talking thousands of miles travelled, several rounds won and a world champion coming from this great group of competitors. This division easily has the most dedicated racers I have ever seen.

“Regarding the upcoming season, it was decided to run the series in a three-in-a row format to benefit as many racers as possible. The ‘western swing’ as it has been referred to, is probably the closest circle of IHRA tracks in the division and it certainly seems like a good way to spend your summer holiday. A few of the Division 6 drivers have had a taste of the ultimate competition in the World Finals and they are so excited to get back to that national stage. It’s going to be a fun year for our division.”
