The tour will open with a double claim weekend paired with the IHRA Drag Racing Series including larger National event contingency claims on Saturday along with a divisional points race on Sunday at Maryland International Raceway. The series then moves to a familiar stop at racer favorite Pittsburgh Raceway Park for a traditional double race Summit Pro-Am weekend. The new and exciting addition of 2016 will be Capitol Raceway, with a host of improvements in recent years, in its inaugural journey into IHRA class racing. Empire Dragway, in its second year on the tour, will host the final event in hopes to improve on a successful weekend in 2015.
Junior competitors will now be able to complete for Summit Pro-Am championships in beginner, advanced and master classes in Division 1 thanks to support from longtime series partner Summit Racing Equipment. All events will feature the familiar two race in one weekend format and will feed the Tournament of Champions with the top 3 Racers (top 2 in Junior Masters and Advanced) that finish within the divisional points.
“With a mix of class racing’s historic stops with MDIR and Pittsburgh, a return to Empire after a wildly successful inaugural event in 2015 and a new stop at the reinvented Capitol, this season should be a great one,” Division Director Jon O’Neal said. “The inclusion of the junior ranks within D1 is the cherry on top.”
