Maryland Racers Parlay Strong Runs into Round Prize Wins

MECHANICSVILLE, Md. — There were 19 different racers who won round prizes during the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) Summit Sportsman Spectacular event at Maryland International Raceway.

The drivers with the best losing packages during the first three rounds of each day’s eliminations took home prizes as well as bonus for Sunday’s Top division winner.

 

Mike Sparacino in the Top division was among the round one winners during Moser Engineering Saturday as the recipient of a Summit Racing Equipment 20 x 10 tent. Gary Kelican won a $100 Sunoco fuel certificate for the Mod division. Junior Dragster racer Cameron Buckler found shade in the form of a Summit Racing Equipment 10 x 10 tent.

 

Those who picked up prizes after the second round included Jeffrey Jones in the Top division with an American Race Cars $250 gift certificate. Francis Reynolds Jr. in Mod received an Abruzzi Transmissions $400 certificate towards an 8 or 9-inch converter. There’s a new Summit Racing Equipment car cover for Junior racer Gillian Mattera.

 

Round three, the “Moser Money Round,” saw Top racer John Dustin pick up a $500 Moser Engineering certificate and a Jones Transmission Cooling Systems $200 certificate. Stephen Cross Jr. in the Mod division also received a $500 Moser Engineering certificate, while Katie Hall was awarded a $250 Moser certificate for the Junior Dragster ranks.

 

Ten racers added their names to the list on Sunday.

 

Matthew Coble in the Top division got a new Summit Racing Equipment 5-layer jacket at the end of round one. Mod racer Robert Copsey picked up a Summit single-layer jacket, while Alex Nelson got re-entry into Junior Dragster eliminations thanks to Summit Racing Equipment.

 

The second round winners started with Top driver Edward Hunnell receiving an American Race Cars $250 gift certificate. Travis Leake in the Mod division picked up a $100 Sunoco fuel certificate. Junior racer Nickole Cayton can look sharp in a new Summit Racing Equipment single-layer jacket.

 

Richard Jelich in the Top division earned 10 percent off the purchase of a new Abruzzi Transmission and a Jones Transmission Cooling Systems $200 certificate. Mod racer Pat Estevez has a new Summit Racing Equipment 10 x 20 tent, while Katie Hall has a Summit cockpit cover for her Junior Dragster.

 

Finishing off the round prizes was a Battle Born Battery $500 certificate to Sunday’s Top division winner Michael Shoop.
