South Carolina Motorplex Opens IHRA Summit SuperSeries Season

ORANGEBURG, S.C. — South Carolina Motorplex hosted its first International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) Summit SuperSeries points race of the season last weekend.

It was a strong return of bracket racing to the Orangeburg, S.C., drag strip on a picturesque day.

Al Faulling took top honors and won a $1,500 check for the featured Box class in his Chevrolet Camaro. Jeffrey Stroman posted a runner-up finish.

Faulling takes over the points lead 100-88 over Stroman. John Robinson, Gus Files and Vernon Russell Jr. round out the top five.

Raymond Roland was $1,000 richer after he drove his Ford Maverick to the No Box win. Shelley Salmond was his final-round opponent.

Salmond, an IHRA member, leads the track standings with 77 points. Christopher Thompson is second with 64 points, followed by Freddy Floyd, Hannah Smoak and Marion Cox.

Thompson raced his Chevrolet pickup to the victory in the True Street class. Annie Zeigler finished runner-up.

Thompson leads the True Street standings 67-44 over Zeigler. Dalton Farman, Andy Chavis and Billy Dunn are the rest of the top five drivers.

Aiden Chavis and Carlie Day faced off in the Junior Dragster finish with Chavis picking up the winner’s check.

Chavis holds a 78-55 lead over Day in the Junior Dragster standings. Stanton McCallister is third, followed by Madison Krupa and Hailey Phillips.
