Huge Payout Highlights IHRA Ironman Classic at Knoxville Dragway

Saturday, 09 September 2023

MAYNARDVILLE, Tenn. — Maybe the saying should be, “Everything is bigger in Tennessee.”

Knoxville Dragway is hosting the IHRA Ironman Classic next Saturday, September 16 with a potential $10,000 winner’s purse for the Pro (Box) class. It’s the same night that two hours away NASCAR has its biggest crowd of the year in East Tennessee with the Bristol Night Race.

Besides racing for the prestigious IHRA Ironman trophies, the No Box class features a potential $4,000 winner’s purse with a potential $2,000 for the Bikes winner. The Sportsman class could pay as much as $600 and there could be $400 for the Junior Dragster winner.

There are $100 entry fees for the Box and No Box classes, $60 for the Bikes, $30 for Sportsman and $20 for Junior Dragster. Spectator entry is $10 with kids 10-under admitted free.

Gates open at 10 a.m. and time trials start at noon, followed by eliminations.

The competition at Knoxville Dragway is as good as anywhere in the country. The track has produced three IHRA Summit SuperSeries World Champions over the past five seasons, and had another driver reach the final round.

The IHRA Ironman Classic program is offered to all IHRA member tracks. Prior to this program, a Sportsman racer could only win an Ironman if they traveled to an IHRA Summit Team Finals, Sportsman Spectacular or World Finals. This program gives local tracks a chance to create extra excitement in their bracket program and offer competitors a chance to win the prestigious Ironman.

There’s plenty of great action at Knoxville Dragway with the Southeast Gassers Association racing this weekend. Click here to check out the track’s Facebook page for more information about these and other events.
