28 CORDOVA BRINGS EXCITEMENT AND COMMUNITY TOGETHER CORDOVA BRINGS EXCITEMENT AND COMMUNITY TOGETHER Cordova International Raceway is a place that bonds the community and gives them exciting racing action in return. The track located just three miles north of Cordova, Illinois, off Highway 84, just east of the Mississippi River, is most famous for being home of the 65th annual World Series of Drag Racing, presented by O’Reilly Auto Parts. Situated on 190 acres of land, it has a 1/4-mile drag strip that features a 300-foot smooth ground concrete launch surface and 3,400 feet of asphalt and shutdown area combined, making it one of the premier drag racing facilities in the country. Cordova features a Compulink Timing System, on-site camping for racers and fans, a large fenced children’s play area, and pit side restrooms that have showers. A unique event that helps bond the community of Cordova and the track is Volunteer Day. This year’s event took place on April 14 and bought together fans, sponsors, and racers all working toward the common goal of helping clean up the facility and get it ready for race season. Big projects are completed in a short amount of time. It is a family-friendly event that allows all to make new friends before the start of the racing season. “Volunteer Day brings out some of the best in our community,” Cordova International Raceway President & General Manager Dominic Blasco said.
