BRADENTON, Fla. (April 12, 2013)– The International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) Nitro Jam series returns to Bradenton Motorsports Park in Florida April 19-20 for the Bradenton Nitro Jam presented by CarSafe, Metro PCS and Southern Ford Dealers.
The April 19-20 event will mark IHRA’s first national event at the track since the 1998-1999 seasons.
It sure is a good time to be a Floridian.

As the end of April quickly approaches so too does a double shot of Nitro Jam action at two of the most exciting tracks in the Sunshine State. First, the International Hot Rod Association’s Nitro Jam series will make a stop at Bradenton Motorsports Park for the first time in over a decade for the Bradenton Nitro Jam presented by CarSafe, Metro PCS and Southern Ford Dealers. Next, Nitro Jam will make its much anticipated return to Palm Beach International Raceway for the CarSafe Palm Beach Nitro Jam.
It was anything but a routine weekend for Funny Car racer Peter Gallen.
After opening the San Antonio Nitro Jam with a blistering shot right out of the box Friday night, Gallen’s weekend progressively got worse First, too much power on Friday sent his “Poverty Stricken” Monza up in smoke in the AMSOIL Prostalgia Nitro Funny Car final relegating him to a runner-up finish.

Don’t forget, we will have LIVE coverage of the San Antonio Nitro Jam presented by CarSafe and Good Vibrations Motorsports throughout the weekend online at www.ihra.com and www.nitrojam.com .

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (April 3, 2013) – The International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) Nitro Jam series returns to San Antonio Raceway in Texas April 5-6 for the San Antonio Nitro Jam presented by Good Vibrations Motorsports and CarSafe.

Bradenton, it has been far too long.
After two memorable trips to Bradenton Motorsports Park in the late 90s, the International Hot Rod Association’s Nitro Jam series didn’t visit the state of Florida again until 2010 with two very successful trips to the southern end of the state.
Let’s face it, the 2013 San Antonio Nitro Jam won’t be a race for the timid.
With many of the top teams from across the country gearing up for a wild ride down 1,320 feet of Texas asphalt, there is no room for “comfort” when the fastest machines in the land take to the strip. No, when the top teams tangle in Texas, it will be “all out” for five seconds of 300 mile-per-hour glory with the winner taking home one of the most coveted trophies of the year – an Ironman from the San Antonio Nitro Jam.

There is nothing more exciting than being the first to do something.

Just ask Pearisburg, Virginia’s Austin Johnson.

When 14-year-old Johnson began racing in the IHRA Junior Dragster program in 2009 Johnson never dreamed he would one day have an opportunity to be a World Champion, at least not until he moved up to a big car. But when the IHRA announced in early 2012 that it would be adding Junior Dragster to the highly popular and extremely successful Summit SuperSeries program beginning this year, it opened up doors for the IHRA’s youngest competitors to have an opportunity to chase a championship and share the stage with some of drag racing’s biggest stars.

2012 Mod Champion – Shane Kay

Imagine this.

After a dominating year that included a third consecutive points championship at your local track, a win at the Division 2 West Summit Team Finals and a trip to Memphis International Raceway to compete for a world championship upcoming and suddenly bam! No more car.

That was exactly the situation faced by Ragland, Alabama’s Shane Kay who blew the motor on his regular championship winning machine at the same Team Finals in which he qualified for the World Finals and was suddenly left without a ride with the biggest race of his career just one week away.

Thankfully for Kay, this story actually has a happy ending. Just a few days later the owner of Kay’s home track of Alabama International Raceway Jason Collins, an experienced racer in his own right, lent Kay one of his cars for the big race. Four days later Kay was in the winner’s circle with the borrowed car celebrating his first major championship as winner of the Mod class during the Summit SuperSeries World Championship presented by AMSOIL and Moser Engineering.

2012 Top Champion – Tim Butler

Have you ever had one of those mornings where things just felt like they weren’t going to go your way?

Tim Butler sure has.

When the Sarasota, Florida awoke on Saturday at the IHRA Summit World Finals at Memphis International Raceway, he just couldn’t shake this feeling that it just wasn’t going to be his day. A runny nose, sore throat and an overall ache left Butler a little more down than usual on race day.

But one thing that always cures a sickness is winning and Butler won bigger than anyone at the IHRA World Finals in Memphis as the Floridian crossed the line first and laid claim to the Top World Championship and one of the most lucrative prize packages in the sport all during the Summit SuperSeries World Championship runoff presented by AMSOIL and Moser Engineering.
