The International Hot Rod Association announced today that 2015 contingency postings have reached $3 million, in addition to pending commitments. The overall posting represents a double-digit increase over 2014. IHRA racers are eligible to collect contingency dollars through participation with posted products in the Nitro Jam Series, Summit Pro-Am Series presented by AMSOIL and the Summit Team Finals.

The International Hot Rod Association is offering something no other sanctioning body does for its sportsman competitors: free, live webcasts of every IHRA Summit Racing Equipment Pro-Am Tour presented by AMSOIL IHRA event. The broadcasts are sponsored by Summit Racing.

After a long off season, driver Trevor Eman and Team Aruba were anxious to get back on the track and into IHRA Nitro Jam action. State Capitol Raceway in Port Allen, Louisiana, played host to the IHRA Mardi Gras Nationals this past weekend and was the stage for Team Aruba’s return to the restructured and renewed racing organization.

“It was great to personally meet all the new members of the IHRA ownership and staff,” said Eman, pilot of the Aruba.com Mustang. “We could not feel more welcome in a racing sanctioning body than we did from them. The race was really fantastic all around. It was great to be back with the IHRA.”

The International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) Nitro Jam Drag Racing Series heads to the sunshine state for the third race of the 2015 season at Bradenton Motorsports Park in Bradenton, Florida. The IHRA Nitro Jam Southern Nationals will mark the biggest drag race in the history of Bradenton at one of the sanctioning body’s most prestigious tracks in United States.

IHRA Nitro Jam is “heads-up” drag racing – first racer to the finish line wins in all five pro categories.

FEATURING:

CROWER PRO MOD: The wildest class in drag racing returns to its birthplace – the IHRA! Nitrous oxide and supercharged engines rocketing the cars (everything from ’57 Chevrolets to new Cadillacs) down the quarter mile at speeds in excess of 250 miles per hour. Pro Mod will compete at eight Nitro Jam events in 2015, beginning with Bradenton Motorsports Park (April 17- 18), followed by Palm Beach International Raceway (April 24-25), Cordova International Raceway (May 29-30), Maryland International Raceway (June 19-20), Grand Bend Motorplex (June 26-28), US 131 Motorsports Park (August 7-8), Dragway 42 (September 11-12) and Memphis International Raceway for the Summit Racing Equipment World Finals (October 9-10).

AMSOIL NITRO FUNNY CAR presented by Aeromotive -- The loudest, fastest nitromethane-burning nostalgia Funny Cars in the country making up the fastest- growing class in drag racing. With new rules allowing these cars nearly unlimited power, the AMSOIL Nitro Funny Car class is the most exciting new class in more than 40 years of Nitro Jam drag racing history. The class utilizes “old school” Funny Car bodies (fiberglass replicas of ‘60s and early-‘70s cars) the fans can relate to. The Baton Rouge event should feature one of the biggest fields of AMSOIL Nitro Funny Cars, featuring Mike McIntire and Jason Rupert. McIntire, of Mentor, Ohio, set a new speed record for the AMSOIL Nitro Funny Car class at the recent season-opener in Tucson, Arizona, in his new “McAttack”1971 Camaro. Rupert, of Yorba Linda, California, is the defending IHRA Nitro Funny Car champion and drives the black “Bays & Rupert” 1969 Camaro.

U.S. BOUNTY HUNTERS PRO STOCK – Once referred to as “factory hot rods,” these stock-appearing American cars are powered by “mountain motor” V-8s. For example, Cary Goforth’s Camaro that won the season-opener at Tucson, Arizona, is powered by a naturally-aspirated, piston-driven V-8 engine that measures in excess of 826 cubic inches. The class is sponsored by the U.S. Bounty Hunters TV show on the Destination America channel.

NITRO HARLEY – Exactly what it means: nitromethane-burning Harley-Davidson motorcycles. Certainly not for the faint of heart, these riders literally don a flack vest and straddle a nitro-burning rocket down the track at speeds in excess of 220 miles per hour on the back wheel.

JET DRAGSTERS – Belching flames and smoke, these rear-engine dragsters are powered by General Electric J-85 jet engines which produce more than 5,000 horsepower and can exceed 300 miles per hour in the quarter mile. Each Nitro Jam features a four-car competition with qualifying and eliminations. The four Florida-based Larsen Motorsports cars all are piloted by females, including defending champion Elaine Larsen and 19-year-old Katerina Moller, a University of South Florida mechanical engineering student.

U.S. JET FIRE TRUCK – Last but not least, what’s not to love about a jaw-dropping, dual-engine, jet-powered 1940 Ford fire truck making track-scorching exhibition passes?

IHRA is proud to announce the continued commitment from member tracks throughout North America.

The International Hot Rod Association™ (IHRA) is proud to announce its Master and Advanced Jr. Dragster classes have been added to the annual Summit Racing Equipment Tournament of Champions presented by AMSOIL – held during the World Finals in Memphis, Tennessee – and will be will be sponsored by longtime series partner Summit Racing Equipment.

The following is a format clarification for all IHRA Summit Pro-Am Tour competitors.

Competitors in all divisions must have a minimum of four (4) claims from events within the respective divisional schedule.

Wild card events may not be used as the only source of in-division claims. Wild card events are designed to help competitors living in certain regions – where Summit Pro-Am events are less concentrated – compete for a division championship while keeping costs of travel at a minimum. They are not intended to replace actual competition at the events within a division. At least two (2) of the four (4) mandated points-claiming events in any division must be from events physically located within the division.

IRG Sports + Entertainment™ and the International Hot Rod Association™ (IHRA) are proud to announce veteran television and radio personality Bill Stephens has been hired as lead announcer for IHRA Nitro Jam events.

“We are pleased to welcome Bill Stephens, a respected broadcaster, into our IHRA Nitro Jam family,” said IHRA President Scott Gardner. “His talent, broadcast style, wealth of experience and intense knowledge of motorsports will add much to the quality of our IHRA Nitro Jam events, both at the track and on our live Internet feeds.”

Ralph Hester, operator of the IHRA-sanctioned Immokalee Regional Raceway in southwestern Florida, is pleased with the turnout for last weekend’s Summit Pro-Am Series presented by AMSOIL season opener. The doubleheader weekend meet kicked off both Immokalee’s 2015 season as well as the IHRA Summit Pro-Am Series presented by AMSOIL campaign.

“Our event’s car count grew from 25-30% over last year,” Hester said. “It’s the biggest race we’ve ever had. We sold 276 tech cards and 269 cars went down the track in the first round. We had approximately 25 drivers that had never raced with us before. We had a wonderful time. It’s our season-opener, our biggest race of the season and something we look forward to every year. We’ve had this race for 12 years now and we’ve always been the first race, being in Florida. It means a lot for us to have that race.

TUCSON, Arizona – The International Hot Rod Association’s (IHRA) Nitro Jam Drag Racing Series returns to Southwestern International Raceway in Tucson, Arizona this Friday and Saturday (February 6-7) for the annual Good Vibrations Motorsports IHRA Southwestern Nationals presented by Budweiser.
