Three Nitro Jam racers scored a pair of victories for the double-event weekend. The fans in the stands hung on every pass after Jason Rupert beat the ET and mph record during Friday night qualifying. All eyes were on every pass the remainder of the weekend to see if he could back up his astounding 5.555 ET which is over 1/10th of a second under the current record. As the weekend closed, Mike McIntire is still the reigning ET and mph record holder as Rupert could not back up his record by the mandatory 1% within the same event the initial record is recorded.

The President's Cup Nationals fueled by Sunoco was concluded today at US 131 Motorsports Park during the Northern Nationals presented by Aeromotive after competition was postponed due to Tropical Storm Bill back in June. Matt Bertsch picked up his first ever IHRA Ironman with a Mountain Motor Pro Stock win. Bertsch, from Tecumseh, Minnesota, defeated Arnold, Missouri driver, John DeFlorian with a .044 reaction time and a 6.352 run at 219.0 mph. DeFlorian left the line at .103 and made a 6.309 pass at 222.77 mph to finish runner up.

A hearty Nitro Jam crowd braved a few evening showers to witness an amazing match up between Mike McIntire, the current IHRA record holder and Jason Rupert. Not only have these two competitors been neck and neck in the IHRA World Championship points battle in Amsoil Nitro Funny Car presented by Aeromotive. Rupert and McIntire have been pushing the world record mark much of this season. Each racer could benefit their championship bid with valuable points earned by resetting the world record.

The new 11.50 index class created by the International Hot Rod Association will be contested at US 131 Motorsports Park (August 7-8). NTS 11.50 is a no throttle-stop class set to compete on a heads-up 11.50 index.

Fans and competitors for the upcoming IHRA Northern Nationals Nitro Jam presented by Aeromotive will be in for a treat before they even see the first race car thunder down the quarter mile. The two mile stretch of road known as 12th Street that connects the state of the art racing grounds to M-222 and US 131 highways has undergone major paving improvements.

This upgraded stretch of road will greatly boost the traffic flow to and from US 131 Motorsports Park and the International Hot Rod Association is thrilled that its fan base will be the first benefactor. Scott Gardner, President of the International Hot Rod Association comments, “US 131 Motorsports Park is a tremendous race track and to see the township and road commission support the infrastructure connecting this facility to the highways is a breath of fresh air.”

The International Hot Rod Association™ (IHRA) will make stop number nine on the 2015 Nitro Jam tour at US 131 Motorsports Park. Plan to be in Martin, Michigan August 7-8 to view one of the most interesting seasons of Nitro Jam competition as they begin the final stretch of a tight points competition in the AMSOIL Nitro Funny Car presented by Aeromotive, Mountain Motor Pro Stock, Crower Pro Modified, Nitro Harley, and Jet Dragster competition.

The Division 1, Patriots, event scheduled at Empire Dragway Aug 21-23 will also count as an “In Division” race for those racers claiming Division 3, North Stars, points in the Summit Racing Equipment Pro-Am tour presented by Amsoil.

Dragway 42, in West Salem, Ohio, is entering the concrete and paving phase of their massive reconstruction of the entire racing facility. The relentless Ohio rain patterns have greatly stalled progress of laying track and pit road surfaces.
