Opened in 1962, by John Grivins off the new US 131 roadway. Grivins felts the land wasn’t suited for farming and saw the potential in building a dragstrip. Originally called Martin Dragway, Grivins was the youngest track operator in country and ran the facility with his father, mother and brother taking on a variety of roles.
As the track grew, John started booking touring pros such as the Ramchargers, the Golden Commandos, Doug Nash, Jay Howell and many others.
Under new ownership, the track underwent a $14 million-dollar renovation and reopened in 2002 offering first class accommodations to all visitors.
However, the most well-known fact amongst competitors and fans is that US 131 Motorsports Park is “The Fastest Track in Michigan”. This was evident in 2017 when the Lagana brothers posted a 4.485 second, 338.35 mph run during the Funny Car Nationals.
US 131 Motorsports Park plays host to many big events throughout the year such as the IHRA Summit Sportsman Spectacular and numerous special events such as US 131 Northern Nationals, 3rd annual Midwest Jr. Drasgter Super Series and more.
“US 131 Motorsports Park is a world class facility,” IHRA Division Director Jon O’Neal said. “The fact that the management team treats everyone as if they were family makes it a great place to be affiliated with.”
Scott Taylor (Top), Kevin Groenveld (Mod) and Ally Muchler (Jr. Dragster) were US 131 Motorsports Park’s representatives for the IHRA Summit World Finals last season.
“The track has one of the largest Summit SuperSeries programs in the country with over 200 registered Summit SuperSeries competitors trying to become the track champion and advance to the Summit World Finals,” IHRA Vice President Skooter Peaco said. “That breeds a highly competitive atmosphere that has resulted in US 131 being six time and defending Division 5 Summit Team Finals Team Champions. If you can win there, you can win anywhere.”
Fans can attend the IHRA Summit Sportsman Spectacular at US 131 Motorsports Park. Tickets are $30 for adults and $10 for children ages 6-12 for the weekend.
