Known as a family-friendly track, Dan explained they have the tradition of racing over 50 years and a lot of families have come through there.
On the drag racing side, they recently renewed a sanctioning agreement with the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA). Dan explained the programs like the IHRA Summit SuperSeries and IHRA Summit Team Finals are designed to work well with their facility.
“It helps out the track. It gives more of an incentive, sort of a carrot hanging out there where they have a chance to run for a World Championship and some of the big prizes,” he said. “I know our drivers look forward to the Team Finals. The last couple of years we filled up our roster with the cars we could take by mid-season. It’s a good thing and people want to be part of it.”
The drivers also love when they can be a part of the IHRA Summit SuperSeries World Finals. Wisconsin International Raceway track representatives at the 2022 World Finals were: Dan Kulk (Box), Chad Lynch (No Box), Aaron Evers (Sportsman) and Kyra Felt (Junior Dragster).
While the bracket program is a major focus, there are other great happenings at Wisconsin International Raceway. They include Full Throttle Friday, which is an open test-and-tune that presents street and grudge racing opportunities, and other special events like the Summer Nationals, Jet Car Nationals and Vintage Nationals.
In addition to the exciting action at the drag strip, Wisconsin International Raceway is also home to a 1/2-mile asphalt oval which has hosted the biggest names in stock car racing. Alan Kulwicki and Matt Kenseth were former track champions who went on to become NASCAR Cup Series champions.
Other prominent winners on the oval have included: Kyle Busch, Mark Martin, Dick Trickle, three-time Indianapolis 500 winner Bobby Unser and current NASCAR Truck Series star Ty Majeski.
There are few racing venues in the country where both tracks enjoy such a rich history. It’s even rarer to have two tracks with such a bright future.
