In the past few days, they’ve been at tracks from Florida to West Virginia. Among those are: Almost Heaven, Elk Creek, Motor Mile, Wilkesboro, Roxboro, Farmington and Piedmont, which is the site of this weekend’s IHRA Sportsman Spectacular presented by Moser Engineering and Fuel Tech.
Prior to that, stops were made at Bradenton, South Georgia, South Carolina Motorplex, Darlington, ShadySide, Union County and Greer.
They pointed to a couple of examples of track operators whose passion shines through. Elk Creek Dragway has the motto, “The track designed with your family in mind.” It’s something those at the Virginia drag strip truly live by.
“Track operator Mike Walters is so dedicated, so passionate,” Roth said. “People don’t see all the hard work he does to make the race track such a fun place.”
Wilkesboro Dragway returned to the IHRA fold in September 2022. Since then, track operator Paul Salvatore has been at it non-stop, doing everything from clearing trees to piles of office work. Taking advantage of the recent time change, he was working well into Tuesday night getting prepared for the races.
Through their travels, Roth and Foley have gained even more of an appreciation for those who work tirelessly to give the racers places to compete.
“The IHRA is so thankful for these folks and also the racers who spend some much of their time, effort and resources to compete at all the drag strips around North America,” Roth said. “We encourage the racers to support the IHRA-member tracks and participate in the IHRA Summit SuperSeries, the most prestigious national championship in bracket racing.”
