A pair of Tennessee racers started the action with the Junior Jam Kick Off Race on Friday night. Blake Combs from Bluff City emerged victorious with Mattie Grayson from Dunlap the other finalist.
Saturday featured the biggest payday with the Junior Jam 10K. There were 142 Junior Dragsters racing for $10,000 and a custom-made guitar trophy. Cody Alvey and John Varner each got off the line with a .055 reaction time.
Alvey captured the victory with a 7.974-second run against a 7.97 dial-in. Varner finished runner-up by speeding down the strip in 8.895 seconds against an 8.92 dial-in. Emma Wyman and Kane Kern reached the semifinal round.
Will Willard capped off the weekend action beating Braden Peters in a hotly contested $5,000-to-win race Sunday. Willard went 7.928 seconds against a 7.94 dial-in. Peters posted a 7.883-second pass with a 7.90 dial-in. The final margin of victory was .0004 seconds.
Alvey made it back to the semifinals, while Cohen Reed from the age 6-9 group was the other semifinalist.
A bonus was a “King of the Parents Race” with Jeff Reed from Loveland, Ohio taking the top honors. He ran an 8.40 off an 8.34 dial with a .061 reaction time. Chris Lawson from Jasper, Tenn., was the other finalist. He posted an 8.13 against an 8.07 dial-in with a .073 reaction time.
