Roxboro Motorsports Park Reaches Multi-Year Agreement with IHRA

Thursday, 28 September 2023

TIMBERLAKE, N.C. — Roxboro Motorsports Park, a track known for great racing and an even greater heart, has entered into a multi-year sanctioning agreement with the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA).

Racers from the 1/8-mile track located on the North Carolina-Virginia border recently participated in the IHRA Division 1 (Patriots) Summit Team Finals. Besides taking care of their own racers, the staff at Roxboro also made sure racers from Motor Mile Dragway could also take part in the event.

It’s just one of the things that sets Roxboro Motorsports Park apart. They always have a theme, a good cause they’re working to promote. In 2022, it was Breast Cancer Awareness and at the recent IHRA Summit Team Finals, it was Autism Awareness.

Back in the spring, track manager Angela Mason saw where there wasn’t a big event specifically for the young racers in the area. Knowing how important it is to keep the youth interested in drag racing, the track hosted a Junior Dragster Ironman Classic. To make even more fun, they had a parents-only race as part of the weekend.

They even pair up a canned food drive with one of the track’s test-and-tune sessions. IHRA Owner Larry Jeffers praised the folks at Roxboro on how they treat others like family.

Mason credits track owner Jody Williams for always being supportive of their work at the track and throughout the community.

While their work in the community is extraordinary, there is also plenty of great competition at the race track with Jamie Goodman winning the Box category at the Race of Champions held at the 2022 IHRA Summit SuperSeries World Finals. Another Roxboro racer, Glenda Cochran, ranked among the best Sportsman racers in the country.

Racers who earned their way to the 2023 IHRA Summit SuperSeries World Finals through the Roxboro point standings are: John Goodman (Top), Mike Keyton (Mod), Glenda Cochran (Sportsman) and Bryce Dejarnette (Junior Dragster).

There’s a rich history dating back to 1959 when it was first opened as Person County Dragway. The best competitors in the region have drag raced here including seven-time NASCAR champion Richard Petty in the 1960s.
